Depends of the type of depression, if it's love-caused depression I go for something like Finger Eleven - Slow Chemical.
If it's existance depression I go for Clint Mansell, Deep Purple (Soldier of Fortune, When a Blind Man Cries).

    Hypothermia – Melankoli
    Thy Light – Suici.De.Pression

But this is not the rule.

  • Winter SAD Blues Depression - Mostly Electronica of the upbeat/high-energy sort, like Techno, Hardcore Techno, Trance, Hard Dance, Goa and Psy-Trance. Dreamy instrumental New Age like 2002 etc when I want to sleep.

Enya's Watermark is perfect choice for bad mood and sadness :) But if you're really depressed (in which you lose "feeling and joy"), music can only be a solace, not solution...

  • Sopor Aeternus& The Ensemble Of Shadows

I have alot of days where I can't even listen to music or keep switching between things, but I guess stuff like Swans, Cranes, Marissa Nadler's - Ballads of Living and Dying, Steven R. Smith's - Cities, Type O Negative, and random game soundtracks.

  • Sad piano songs. Yesterday I found scary kids scaring kids. Fucking beautiful. ^^

my miserable-Milena-emergency-kit contains: NIN "The Fragile" and unhealthy amounts of Clan of Xymox...hehe ;-) things that I'm listening to even when I'm relatively ok are Bauhaus and Joy Division... and also The Cure due to sentimental values & people that I associate with particular songs

  • Depressive black metal, depressive rock, post-rock... But I listen to this in general, not only in depression. Hmm...but I always depressed, lol

Depressive black metal... yeah, me too. It's probably the most expressive genre...

  • When I'm in my normalish moods I listen to a lot of heavy metal/metalcore, but when my mood turns, I seem to slow it down- a lot of Alice in Chains. Nirvana. Some Bright Eyes. Sometiems I listen to Alice in Chains- Nutshell over and over lol.

  • And ditto above on the sad piano songs. Moonlight Sonata esp.
