    Covers

Most covers suck big time, but once in a while you can be surprised...

Dave Matthews Band - All Along the Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix cover)
Jack Hammer - Wish You were here (Pink Floyd Cover)
    ...

    more will be added

  • hey im brand new in here, hope all is well with ye, i have a thing bout covers, i like to pick alot up here and there, my favourite at the moment is
everybody's gotta learn sometimes - beck,on the eternal sunshione of the spotless mind soundtrack!
across the universe - rufus wainright is also pretty good!

    Lois: You're drunk again.
Peter: No, I'm just exhausted 'cause I've been up all night drinking.
  • hi, i realise im replying to my own message, but another good one is
lay, lady, lay - magnet featuring gemma hayes, its just lovely!

    Lois: You're drunk again.
Peter: No, I'm just exhausted 'cause I've been up all night drinking.
  • my bloody valentine - map ref 41n 93w

  • Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" is one of the best ever. Dylan actually perfoms it Hendrix style now.

Infectious Grooves version of "Immigrant Song" is also really good.

  • These are a couple of my favorite covers, music genre of the cover is included for the more unknown bands:
Frank Zappa, Stairway to Heaven (original by Led Zeppelin, reggae)
7 Zuma 7, Hot Stuff (original by Donna Summer, stonerrock)
Johnny Cash, Personal Jesus (original by Depeche Mode)
Queen of Japan, I Was Made for Loving You (original by Kiss, electronic)
Slackers, Wanted Dead or Alive (original by Bon Jovi, reggae)
Unto Ashes, Don't Fear the Reaper (original by Blue Oyster Cult, acoustic/folk)
Montezuma's Revenge, Firestarter (original by The Prodigy, acappella)
Bjørn Berge, Give it Away (original by Red Hot Chili Peppers, acoustic blues)
Kate Bush, Rocket Man (original by Elton John)
Tori Amos, '97 Bonny and Clyde (original by Eminem)
Ewan McGregor, Jose Feliciano, and Jacek Koman, Roxanne (original by The Police, tango)
Dandy Warhols, Hells Bells (original by AC/DC)
John Otway, Space Oddity (original by David Bowie, weird)
Ruder Than You, Paranoid (original by Black Sabbath, ska)
Al Green, Light My Fire (original by The Doors, soul)
Cibo Matto, About a Girl (original by Nirvana, easy listening)
Nostalgia 77, Seven Nation Army (original by The White Stripes, soul)

Franco Saint de Bakker, No One Knows (original by Queens of the Stone Age, jazz)
Easy Star All Stars, Dark Side of the Moon album (original by Pink Floyd, reggae)

Besides these I currently enjoy Nouvelle Vague very much, especially their version of Guns of Brixton.

  • yay glad someone mentioned
Cibo Matto's cover of About a Girl
and Zappa's Stairway to Heaven cover. : ]

...and bonnie and clyde covers? Luna (w/ Laetitia Sadier)'s version is fantastic! : P (edit: i just noticed, uh Luna's cover is from a Serge Gainsbourg song, not Eminem)

    right now I'm really digging:

color filter - going out of my head (the zombies)
the raincoats - lola (the kinks)
jeff buckley - halleilujah << i pretend to spell. (leonard cohen)
like a tim & gina v.d. orio - i only have eyes for you, ...
kanda - i think we're along now (tommy james & the shondells, made really popular by tiffany)
the moog cookbook - buddy holly (weezer)

    seu jorge's bowie covers
    nouvelle vague's covers

ladytron - oops (oh my) (tweet) ...hehe, jk. : )

Some of my personal favs are:
    Don't You Forget About Me
    Take On Me
    Squeeze Box
    Fairytale Of New York
    Hair Of The Dog

  • Best Cover - I Heard It Through The Grapevine

Creedence Clearwater Revival also did a really good version of this song. Not sure if it was Gladys Knight or Marvin Gaye that did the original version.

Independant Woman is a strange cover version that I really like.

Biffy Clyro did an excellent cover version of 'Buddy Holly' by Weezer
