    Corelli's Contemporaries!

Anyone care to suggest the names or works of lesser nown-composers who were Arcangelo Corelli's contemporaries, and might be of interest? :o)

Tomaso Albinoni. His best known work is the second concerto (in d minor) in the Op.9 concerti a cinque set. The eleventh & sixth concerto in the Op.7 set are also really good.
He wrote some trio sonatas that should be interesting for those who love Corelli's. Giazotto's famous Adagio for organ & strings is based on a slow movement from one of Albinoni's trio-sonatas.

  • I'm a little late in replying to this, but the first composer I think of in this group is probably Domenico Gabrielli. I always feel his compositions are much what Corelli would have written had he played the cello rather than the violin. His works for solo (or continuo-accompanied) cello are amazing.
