Ry Cooder at the Brisbane Convention Centre 21st November 2009
Sat 21 Nov – Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe Until recently, Ry Cooder has not toured for 20 years and he hasn't been to Australia for 30. Last night 21st November 2009 at the Brisbane Convention Centre, he held the audience spellbound with his complete mastery of the guitar. Drawing on all of his albums, which date back to 1970, he gave us a great cross section of songs ably backed by Nick Lowe (who performed a number of notable solos of his own) on bass and son Joachim Cooder on drums with backing vocals from Juliette Commagere and Alex Lilly. This was a wonderful concert that makes me glad that I can tick off that I have seen one of the great blues guitar maestros at least once in my lifetime.
Songs performed (in no particular order): Vigilante Man, Little Sister, Crazy 'Bout An Automobile (Every Woman I Know), He'll Have To Go, 13 Question Method, Across The Borderline, FDR In Trinidad, Jesus On The Mainline, Fool For A Cigarette / Feelin' Good, How Can A Man Stand Such Times And Live?, Tamp 'Em Up Solid. There were others that I can't recall.
May you be in heaven three days before the devil knows you're dead!
