Communist Songs?

  • Communist Songs?

So, since this is a music site and a communist forum, I thought a thread on songs about Socialism/Communism would be appropriate. I was trying to compile a playlist and I couldn't come up with too many...

Although by far the best, and funniest, song about communism has to be "The Last Communist" DOWNLOAD IT IMMEDIATELY!

    Other ones:
    Communist Daughter
Stereolab--most of their songs have socialist undercurrents (esp. on Emperor Tomato Ketchup)
The Russian Futurists--some songs about the USSR in decay

    Anyone else have any ideas?

You really can't go wrong with old USSR propaganda music. :P

Try sovmusic.ru -- there's a link to the English version of the site somewhere, if you can't read Russian.

Other than that, I don't know. I listen to a few leftie punk bands, but none of them strike me as specifically socialist. I'll look.

  • bella ciao - partisan song

  • "The (International) Noise Conspiracy", a swedish indie/garage band....
some titles: "up for sale", "bigger cages, longer chains", "capitalism stole my virginity"...
    http://www.lastfm.it/music/The+(International)+Noise+Conspiracy

    they rocks.

for those who speak italian: "99 Posse"

    ciao.

    P.S.
    fuck stalinists counter-revolutionary assholes!
    follow the italian communist-left!
    ;)

  • Billy Braggs cd "The Internationale" is the obvious choice. The Red Flag, Internationale etc.

beyond that,I'm not exactly sure. T(I)NC as mentioned in the post above me I suppose.

There's a fair few Anti-Fa punk bands, Los Fastidios being one example well worth looking up. As for where I'm from, Runnin' Riot are fantastic. Any fans of say Dropkick Murphys Street Punk will love them.

A song against an initiative that wants to have a quota for german music on german radio (heard they have something like this in France). Communist Hip Hop

  • two fantastic italian groups, real commies, CCCP (like the soviet russian party) and C.S.I (consorzio suonatori indipendenti = indipendent musicians group)

    listen it

    saluti, muflone

  • What about satisfaction from the rolling stones? Describes perfectly how capitastic society creates desires it cannot satisfy.

»Mir macht die Krise Angst: Wenn man Ratten in einen Käfig sperrt und dann das Bodengitter mit Krisenspannung elektrisiert, fangen sie an, einander totzubeißen. The Lost Patrol - Another Song About Marx and Me

  • for those who speak italian: "99 Posse"

ho un rigurgito antifascista, se vedo un punto nero sparo a vista!! ;)

( = I'm having an antifascist outburst, if I see a black spot I shoot on sight )

two fantastic italian groups, real commies, CCCP (like the soviet russian party) and C.S.I (consorzio suonatori indipendenti = indipendent musicians group)

yeah, but did you hear of giovanni lindo ferretti (singer in both groups) recently? he has become something of an orthodox catholic, and he claimed he voted for berlusconi in april!!! OH, MY!!!

...and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.
  • Refused's 'The Shape Of Punk To Come' is pretty much a whole anti-capitalism cd. It's my favorite cd of all time. Really good hardcore. Check out the songs 'New Noise' 'The Deadly Rhythm of the Production Line' or 'Protest Song '68' to start.

Against Me!'s 'Baby, I'm An Anarchist' isn't communist, but is a really amazing song. Bands like them, Defiance Ohio, and maybe Strike Anywhere have really good leftist songs or at least unifying themes.

But yeah, Dennis Lyyxen, the singer of Refused now fronts both The International Noise Conspiracy and The Lost Patrol for anyone interested, so the common lyrical themes run throughout all 3 bands.

Normally I'm really bored by Punk, but I really had some fun listening to them, thx for the recommendation.
btw: Can't find anything by Mike Stout.

  • if you understand croatian/bosnian/serbian language, then listen to Zaklonišće Prepeva ;)

  • 'Die goldenen Zitronen', there's a big break in their muscial history with the release of 'Economy Class' (I don't recommend listening to the albums before). Best Album imho is 'Schafott zum Fahrstuhl'.

  • U must listen to Silvio Rodriguez and Carlos Puebla, the singers of cuban revolution!

Also Victor Jara, Violeta Parra and Quillapayun. They are considered part of the "Nueva Cancion"(new song)in Chile, during Allende's period.

This are great examples of how did the revolution sound like in latinamerica. so its all in spanish
