Description:
A group built around Allen Ginsberg, Moondog, Ornette Coleman, radiating everywhere. Needed name: turns out all 3 were part of a 1966 film, "Chappaqua" (as "Messiah," "The Prophet," & "Peyote Eater").

The connections may be unexpected... ended up with less spoken word and jazz than I expected, and a lot more avant-garde and late classical, noise & drone, and quite a bit of New Weird America. What the artists seem to have in common is that they are not afraid to go out on a limb, to take the risk of abject failure, to be misunderstood or even reviled. Each artist here creates distinctive sounds and occupies previously uninhabited artistic territory.

Radio is complete, and now boasts a full 400 artists... a mix you won't find anywhere else, I can safely say. Beyond that, you be the judge!

Connections are complete! Radio is next. More jazz, more spoken word, and a few strange offshoots due to things like "The Pineapple Express" which made the jump from Moondog to Hawaiian music and introduced a whole slack-key thread, and Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour: Baseball, which caused Ferlinghetti to link to Joe Darling and others who started a rockabilly thread. All part of the delicious messiness of life!

Great response, everyone! It's now a little less than 21 hours since I announced the group, and 44 have joined (I had one earlybird who managed to find it even before I announced it). I can't help but notice how many here are artists themselves, including quite a few I listen to with great pleasure... I hope this collection of artists is going to provide some discoveries for everyone... it certainly is for me. I spent some days listening to the radio after I created it before I even titled the group, let alone announced it, and liked the energy passed from one piece to another among this disparate group of musical explorers. I hope too that some of these sounds will shake the musicmakers among us loose from some of our boxes and free up some creative explorations into places we've never dreamed before. I can envision a forum thread devoted to the discoveries we've made here... Maybe we can get some group projects going too!
