Welcome to "Carlo Gesualdo" group!

Carlo Gesualdo, known as Gesualdo da Venosa (March 8, 1566 – September 8, 1613), Prince of Venosa and Count of Conza, was an Italian music composer, lutenist and nobleman of the late Renaissance. He is famous for his intensely expressive madrigals, which use a chromatic language not heard again until the 19th century; and also for committing what are considered notorious murders of his wife and her lover.
Though Gesualdo's influence was exceptionally limited during his lifetime, his work has been rediscovered and appreciated as a precursor to later, more expressive and technically difficult styles of music. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Gesualdo

Wow. Madrigal book 5 is unlike anything I've ever heard. Anyone know where books 4 and 6 might be available for download? Those are the only ones I can't seem to find. By the way, I adjusted the (currently default) image on the artist page to look a bit more vibrant so please vote it up if you like it. Thanks.

One of the few composers whose music I will happily play all day long. Just incredible.

I highly recommend the Werner Herzog film on his life and music: 'Death for Five Voices'.
