Description:

The group is not for laissez faire idealists but for those who accept state control of society is probably impossible in the long run, so the existence of private property and enterprise (aka capitalism) is necessary

... Don't have any gay philosophic quotes to add either

Capitalism is intuitively immoral. I think any intelligent human being surely must realise that a system whereby some people "earn" £200 000 per week while kids starve to death is blatantly wrong. It all seems so obvious to me; i struggle to make my point. Can't understand how anyone can defend capitalism ha

Capitalism gives us pretty much anything we want. Where there is demand, there is also supply.

'minimum wage' is an abstract concept concoted by unions and socialists, which has nothing in common with hard market reality

Hey, this really weird; there's no leader and yet I have permissions. What?! @ flltby: There's no denying that there are some people in this world who are subject to horrible working conditions, made to work for less than minimum wage - but at least they now HAVE a job. Economic development takes time. Just because it doesn't happen overnight, it doesn't mean it's not occurring as we speak! Forefront in my mind in supporting both globalisation and capitalism is the improvement of welfare for individuals in both developed and developing economies.

So suppose i strike because 1 $ per day isn't enough for me anymore. If another takes my place, he must need the money more than i do.

things were pretty shity (for laborers) in the west when the industrial revolution began, but things changed for the better Perhaps in time, things will change abroad as well.

It's better for them to work for $10 a day than to have mass starvation in their countries like they did when they were agrarian farming societies. The horrendously low wages are partly the fault of the governments of these countries as they didn't negotiate well enough to achieve a desirable outcome for their people.

Maybe the good thing about globalisation is that those of us who are fortunate enough to live in a country where a decent standard of living has been fought for and won over generations will no longer find it so easy to ignore the 80% of the world that as flltby points out live on less than $10 a day. More and more of us who work for a living are going to be competing with them for our jobs. We have already seen most ot the maunfacturing sector move to countries where labour is cheaper now it is the turn of professional services – IT, Financial, architectural etc. IBM recently offered IT professionals in the US the choice of redundancy or relocation to countries like India and China at local rate. It is something we in the west are going to have to get used to. With globalisation our standard of living is simply not competitive. Yea Capitalism Rocks;-)
