Modern Canterbury sound, anyone?

  • Modern Canterbury sound, anyone?

would anyone like to share with any (relatively) modern artists which sound alike?

or, at least, those who try to continue the tradition?

    confusion will be my epitaph...

I think modern Canterbury Sound would be quite hard to find. Today music is produced much differently than back in the 60's and 70's, so it sounds different too. If there really are modern bands that have Canterbury Sound, they are far from mainstream and thus not easily found. Not many singers have the Canterbury style of singing nowadays, and many keyboardists tend to use modern synths rather than Hammond B3 organs. They just don't make it like back then...

There is a local band that reformed quite recently but used to be quite big on the Kent scene in the 90s. They are called CROW and are on here under CROW (Kent) I think. Very good music and extremely psychedelic.crow (kent)

  • CROW - Canterbury sound?

I have always been a member of the band CROW. We all live, play, practice and record in and around canterbury . All members of the band CROW strive to reproduce 'the local sound' also utilising old valve amps and guitars -as well as many new modern sounds. It is still very important to us to sound like we come from here and not play American sounding rock or whatever.... are we not part of 'the Canterbury scene?'
Many thanks for the shout Delibird

I think Roine Stolt and his projects The Flower Kings and The Tangent can be categorized as "modernized Canterbury sound", give them a listen to, you will probably enjoy.

  • Mr. Sirius is a great "Canterbury Scene" band from Japan. They sound like a mixture between Joe Hisaishi compositions, Symphonic Rock by Yes and the complex, humorous sound of Canterbury bands.
