  • The most beautiful song(s) you've ever heard?

Thought this would make a great non-connection thread to start with...

    Crawling
    Turn The Sky (Feat. Apocalyptica)
    Elephant (incredible, highly recommended)
    Never Is A Promise
    Time Out from the World
    Before the Dawn
Fire Burns Below (very non-typical soundscape based song for the band, works beautifully.. very atmospheric)
    Frozen
    Oh Father
    The Power of Good-Bye
    Time Stood Still
    Black Angel
    Clear Day

  • ^ = Soundtrack geek. ^_^
  • AIDS Wolf.

Just kidding. Penguin Cafe Orchestra, or Menomena's Under An Hour album.

  • Just thought I would add Diamond Day to the list. It's beautiful. :)

I hope this thread is still alive--the beautiful music is...

A short list of songs of profound beauty to me:

-- Lilac Wine - Jeff Buckley (all of Grace really...)
-- Spiegel im Spiegel - Arvo Part
-- Pieta - Adrian Legg from Guitar for Mortals
-- Under the Moon, Elegy, Hymn, Deep Peace, et al. - Bill Douglas
-- Common Threads - Bobby McFerrin from the compilation On a Starry Night
-- Saturday's Child - Brendan Perry from Eye of the Hunter
-- Spider and I - Brian Eno from Before and After Science
-- No One Would Riot for Less - Bright Eyes
-- Sanvean, and Don't Fade Away - Dead Can Dance from the live album Toward the Within
-- The Child in Us - Enigma from Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!
-- In The Morning Of The Magicians, It's Summertime, et al. - Flaming Lips from Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
-- Peggy-O - Grateful Dead from St. Paul Civic Center 05-11-77 (best version--by far)
-- What Was That - John Gorka from The Company You Keep
-- The Ocean Cried Blue Murder, Belladonna, Home, et al. - The Legendary Pink Dots from The Maria Dimension
-- Sisters of Mercy, and so many others - Leonard Cohen
-- Mayfly Too - Lilac Time from Looking for a Day in the Night
-- Elegy, and most everything else she's done - Lisa Gerrard from Immortal Memory with Patrick Cassidy
-- Teardrop - Massive Attack with Liz Fraser esp. the live versions, but also from Mezzanine
-- Into Dust - Mazzy Star from So Tonight That I Might See
-- Northern Sky, et al. - Nick Drake
-- Morning Bells - the amnesiac version, and Fake Plastic Trees from The Bends - Radiohead
-- Set the Fire to the Third Bar - Snow Patrol with Martha Wainwright from Eyes Open
-- Ballerina - Van Morrison from Astral Weeks
-- The Larghetto (2nd Mvmnt) - Frederic Chopin from his Piano Concerto No. 1 in Em (which was actually his second)

and finally, the list would not be complete without:

-- Canon in D - Johan Pachelbel, but I've a favorite version that renders all others virtually unlistenable--because it is so perfect to me!

Sorry if this list got out of hand--I actually had to hold back from listing so many others...

I cant believe no one has mentioned Sarah Brightman! ;)
"Free", "Eden", and her version of "Adagio de Albinoni" are great... "Deliver me" was what first got me hooked on her about 4 years ago, but even though I still find the melody of that song to be beautiful, the lyrics are just too needy sounding to me now... ><
I also recommend "Blue orb" by Kahimi karie and "Path feat. Sandra Nasic(from guano apes)" By Apocalyptica
alot of stuff by japanese rock artist Janne Da Arc is beautiful to me as well, especially his song "Gaia" :) its fun to sing!
I'm sure I could think of lots more but I'll shush for now X3
