    1.5.1 Beta

We've worked our socks off to bring you a new bug fixed beta. Please test it!

    Mac:
    http://cdn.last.fm/client/Mac/Last.fm-1.5.1.27516.dmg

Win (make sure to get both the client and the iTunes plugin):
    http://cdn.last.fm/client/Win/Last.fm-1.5.1.27516.exe
    http://cdn.last.fm/plugins/ass/iTunesPluginWinSetup_3.0.1.0.exe

    * Fixed changing user account in the Settings dialog.
    * Improved caching behaviour.
    * Mac: Restored Hide Dock Icon feature, as we solved the crash.
    * Mac: Fixed Beach-ball-of-doom bug.
    * Mac: Optimised iPod scrobbling by 14 times.
    * Added a button for triggering iPod scrobbling manually in the Diagnostics Dialog.
    * Added the option "Give more feedback" to the iPod settings.
    * Win: Fixed broken auto updater
    * Better error handling in iPodScrobbler

I hope that all makes sense to you.

We haven't much improved the detection, for now. But we added a button in the Diagnostics dialog that forces iPod scrobbling. Use this after you sync.

To bring you confidence, the new iPod system is over four times more effective than the previous version. So apologies to those of you that it no longer works for :( This is unexpected, but we will fix it all, eventually. Thanks for your support.

    Max

    Okay,
I installed both updates, tried the manual install and got this:
    080517 00:04:16 - 00000CD0 - ITunesComWrapper::logComError(590) - L2
COM Error: COM couldn't get file path for Sir Julian - Black On Pink
    Result code: S_FALSE
over and over and over. I think it's going through every single file.
So, the question is, why can't it find them?
And the second question is, why on earth is it looking for the actual file?

For the record, I keep my files on a NAS, which is a J: drive, with iTunes pointed to it. They are NOT in the standard iTunes directory.

    So, maybe that's an issue.
    Thanks,
    Peter

PS: When I said "over and over", I meant with a different file name each time. It looks to be going in alphabetical order by title of song.

The iPodScrobbler needs the path of the file on Windows to act as unique ID. Otherwise it can't create a diff and figure out your iPod scrobbles.

But also you get that error repeatedly for manual iPod scrobbling anyway, and it's not an issue.

    Is everything working OK?

at last, scrobbling is work (Win, ipod nano 2gen).
after the installation, client didn't detect the ipod. but after forcing ipod scrobbling in diagnostic dialog, it goes right.
    great thanks to developers!! =)

I listened to a couple of tunes & then did a manual scrobble. iPodScrobbler kicked off, complained about some videos I never watch, then shot the CPU use into the stratosphere. I left it for hours & came back. iPodScrobbler was gone from the task list, but last.fm was chewing CPU cycles like crazy. Nothing had scrobbled at that point, so I cut it off.

I don't know if I've rebooted, so I might try that.

If you could give me an approximate expected wait time for scrobbling of 10K+ tracks on a 160GB, that would help. I think it takes a while. But if I knew to check after 5 min or 5 hrs, that would be helpful.

    Thanks!
    Peter

  • Same here as Leretic (also as far as Win and 2nd gen nano): it works!

Still no automatic detection, but at least I can force the iPod srobbling manually.

    Great job, thanks a lot!

  • On installing the iTunes plug-in I got:

    C:\Archivos de Programa\iTunes\Plug-Ins\itw_scrobbler.dll
An error ocurred while trying to replace the existing file: DeleteFile failed; code 5
    Denied access

Along with the retry, ignore, cancel options... So? n_nU

    Ignore that...

  • Wow! I got a lot of pending scrobbles on my iPod, but without any dates nor time
How do I know if those aren't already scrobbled ones?

I have the same problems while iPod scrobbling.
My iTunes Music Library is in the L:\-Drive.
I have found a way to scrobble the tracks - I've copied the actuall music library to C:\... where normaly the itunes music library is and now it scrobbled 161 tracks.
    Platform: Win Vista

  • I finally found how to scrobble, all I have to do is leave my iPod as an external disk and that way I get enough time as to clock on the "Scrobble iPod" button
    iPod's back!!

That can't be right. If it's an automatic synced iPod, then the iPod is no part of the operation, after the sync. We never actually deal with the iPod at all.

  • Well, that's the way it worked form me n_nU
It takes quite some time for the pop-up to appear asking me to scrobble, but I don't mind, I'm no longer losing tracks ^^

    ipod

I've had absolutely no problem with ipod scrobbling other than this little issue.

I tend to listen to music directly off of my iPod through itunes (saves space on my macbook hard drive). The problem is that when I plug my ipod in, the last.fm app picks up the tracks from both my last itunes listen session, and my last ipod session, forcing me to uncheck the songs that I listened to last time I used itunes.

I noticed that this was happening with the 1.5.0 versions as well, but I didn't listen to music through itunes enough at that time to see if it happened more than a couple of times.

I have also noticed that I get the spam flag on my profile every time I listen to a song through itunes coming from my ipod.

I also JUST realized that the give more feedback (ipod settings) button doesn't stay ticked on my system when I close out of the preferences.

I would also like to request that there be some way to access the diagnostics window through the menubar, as I like to hide my dock icon and therefore have no other way of getting it.

Thanks for all the great work!

  • I've also noticed that the "Give more feedback" button doesn't stay clicked, but I'm using Windows XP, not Mac.

  • iPod touch Scrobbling is still not working for me. If I check the "Give more feedback" box, close, then reopen the options it's unchecked again. There is 2 entries under "Known iPods". This is on XP.

  • Oh, new bug. On late scrobbles, sometimes I have to click twice on the "Scrobble iPod" button because not all of my listened tracks appear on the first window (I.E. If I listen to three albums on the iPod and scrobble it, most of the times only two albums will appear. Scrobble it again and the remaining album appears)
Kinda weir, speccially if I'm listening to it in shuffle and can't remember what song did I hear

    Okay, after some time:
    - I listened with my Shuffle (the clippy kind, v2, I think) and docked it. It chugged a little while, then came up with a list of tunes to scrobble. BUT, it was not a complete list. Again, missing maybe 25 of the 60 tracks. That's almost WORSE than not scrobbling, because now I have to go through manually & figure which didn't scrobble & drag the rest to a play list which I then play in order to scrobble them. (They get double play-counted, but I don't care.) Oh, also, I think it kicked the scrobble dialog off on its own.

Also, with my big iPod (classic, v6? 160GB...) plugging it in causes nothing to happen (that I can see). Pressing the Scrobble iPod causes nothing to happen except for iTunesScrobblerHelper (or something like that) to be created in the background (visible under Task Manager). Then I went upstairs, came back that evening & it was gone, but still... no scrobble. So I scrobbled those 30+ tracks by hand as well.

    Anyway,
I'm not having success, which makes me sad.

  • Good news, after failing to scrobble when I started using my (refurb) Touch the beta is working just fine, all my (podcasts from my nano and) music from my Touch are now scrobbling and appearing on the Last.fm widget. I now get the dialogue box when I sync. Normal service has now been resumed.

Thanks for fixing it on the beta.

I suspect the real fun starts when the new OS is released later this month...

I re-installed everything and it seemed to work - lastfm recognized my iPod (something which it didn't to with the latest version).

The problem is: My music is spreaded over 2 PCs (so my iPod is set as a external harddisk). When I scrobble manually, it doesn't seem to find the songs that are on my iPod, but not on this PC (anymore - as I removed them from my PC), that's fine. But then it only scrobbled 2 songs.

When I try to scrobble automatically, almost nothing scrobbles. It gives errors over and over again (with every song - alphabetically), but it did scrobble 70 songs.

What is wrong? I own a 30GB iPod 5th Gen video, a PC with Windows XP Home, Lastfm 1.5.1.27516, iTunes plugin 3.0.1.0 and iTunes 7.2.0.34

    Thanks.
