    Last.fm Desktop Application Beta 2.1.21

It's been a while, but there's another update to the Last.fm Desktop App Beta.

In app updates will start happening within the next 24 hours, in the meantime you can download the new version from the group page.

    Please keep the feedback coming!

Below is a summary of changes:

    Features
    * [Mac] Added option to hide app icon from the dock (also has to hide app's menu bar, and icon in tab switcher)
    * We now scrobble 'album artist' as well as 'artist' for cleaner album pages on the website (all plugins have been updated)
    * Fingerprinting local tracks has been added (can be turned off in preferences)
    * "Scrobbling is off" message has been added to the status bar

    Bug fixes
    * Better album images in the scrobble list
    * We now only ask you to install plugins for apps we've detcted you've installed
    * We now make sure you close your media players before plugins are installed
    * We now make sure you close WMP or Winamp before bootstrapping (won't bootstrap if they are left open)
    * Profile widget now refreshed when you switch to it so data doesn't get as out of date
    * Fixed some bugs in the preferences dialog

  • Volume slider

I haven't nailed down the cause yet, but the volume slider occasionally stops working in this version. It seems to respond for the first song (playing "Mix Radio"), but on subsequent songs (especially after clicking skip) the icon is depressed but stuck in position.

Good to see updates again though.

  • Podcasts

Still Scrobbles Podcasts stored on my music folder.

  • Wrong version

In the "About" drop down menu the wrong version is shown (2.1.20 instead of 2.1.21) even though version 2.1.21 is installed.

    Norton doesn't like it:(

    libsamplerate-0.dll
    Threat Name:
    Suspicious.Cloud.5

    Details
    Unknown Community Usage,
    Unkown Age, Risk High

    File: C:\program files (x86)\las.fm\libsamplerate-o.dll Removed

Client will not start without this file.

Can I have a link back to previous version please so I can restore?

Running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2

I really must get round to creating a cool signature for this box

    Previous version available here: http://cdn.last.fm/client/Win/Last.fm-2.1.20.exe

  • I'm trying to Scrobble tracks from my iPod with this new version (via Diagnostics as I would usually) and the scrobbler keeps crashing. I had no issues with the previous version. Restart and reinstall doesn't seem to have helped and nothing about my setup / library has changed since my last scrobble on Sunday (9/9/12).

The majority of the problems I experienced I had with the more recent beta clients had to do with scrobbling from my 1st gen iPod and the creation of linked duplicate submissions where you could not just delete one instance of the submission - deleting one deleted both. Because of the severity of these problems I switched back to the current stable version and the problems have disappeared. I see nothing in the notes for this version that any scrobbling issues have been addressed. That being the case I will hold off trying this new version.

    Music, like language, is universal.
  • yeah..the current one is not letting me move my files to other folders if I scobble it, and norton doesn't like it, so I had to put it on my ignore list..

A whisper that echoes through time and touches your lips
  • thanks for the link for the previous ver. btw, I will keep using that one till they work out the kinks..

@eyespyhifi We currently only support disabling podcasts from iTunes when they are marked with 'Media Kind = Podcast' in the 'Options' tab of iTunes' track info dialog. We'll look into solutions for other media players. Also, yes the version number in the about dialog was an oversight. I'll fix that later today.

Thanks for reporting the other problems, guys. We'll continue to look into them.

Last.fm now crashes for me when I play a song with winamp.

I've tried a clean winamp (of the lastest version) install and clean last.fm desktop install.

It does show the information on the current song like normal, but instantly the windows "program has stopped working" dialog comes up.

On further investigation it seems this was caused by AVG, but it's working fine now. :)

(Also it still tries to install the winamp plugin in the wrong place instead of detecting my winamp install location)

    Edit:
    Several hours later.
Okay, the client does crash when I start to play some songs (flacs).
I think it might be related to FLAC and the audio finger printing?

It doesn't scrobble from iPod for me...
It usually takes a long time to do it for itself, so I've grown used to going to Diagnostics and scrobble it manually~ But now it stops at this message and doesn't do anything else. :/

Disabling fingerprinting from last.fm client -> options -> scrobbling, fixed my crashing problems.

  • Processing Scrobbles...

Version 2.1.20 did scrobble my iPhone perfectly, 2.1.21 doesn't (hangs in "Processing iPod Scrobbles...").

    Win7 Professional x64, Last.fm 2.1.21, iTunes.

    PLEASE fix it...

Very nice UI compared to current non beta version, but I will not upgrade yet because:

While playing radio (Win 7 x64)

    1.5.4.27091

    2.1.21 beta

  • The new app crashes (2.1.21, even if it's shown as 2.1.20) constantly on a lot of songs... :'(
Example, on Catacomb Snatch OST, or on DJ Hero's OST.

According to the Windows diary, it's ntdll.dll that makes it crash (in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll).

Is there a way to downgrade the app, before it's fixed ?

EDIT: Oh btw, I'm scrobbling from foobar 1.1.11.
