Making a apskaft documentary

  • Making a apskaft documentary

I think it would be a great idea. With phone/skype interviews. Maybe live interviews if the filmmaker lives near the artist(s)

That really does sound interesting. Could be a humongous project though... but that has never deterred Apskaft in the past! :-)

  • Yep, that'd be a box office hit for sure.

  • We could put it on youtube and have apskaft music as the soundtrack. Apskaft never gets deterred. But we need a person to film/interview

I think the way to do this is to make our own separate documentary pieces, and then edit the pieces together for a full documentary. Of course we could interview each other but I'm not sure about how many of us actually live nearby other Apskaftians. Maybe we could do interviews in some other way than "live"?

  • phone interviews

  • We could do it as "The making of Battleship Potemkin", when that project is finished (deadline to send tracks is tomorrow, plus a couple of days of video editing).

Here's what I'm thinking, regarding interviews: we could email or PM each other interview questions, after which the interviewed party could ask a friend to operate the camera and ask the questions. (Of course we could do phone interviews too, and add footage to them.)

This, mixed together with documentary footage each one makes about themselves and their own projects, plus bits of music videos and perhaps just music when that seems fitting, would make up the building blocks for a massive Apskaft documentary. This could turn out to be the documentary equivalent of the Apskaft symphony!

However, I suggest we set the deadline quite far off in the future, perhaps in October or November, because a project like this shouldn't be done in a hurry. The documentary could be a project that we do in the background, so to speak, while we engage in other more short term projects, such as Apskaft Against Fascism or whatever we come up with in the course of 2011.

  • that idea about the pming the questions is a good sounding one

I referred to "One World One Voice" in the World Of Apskaft thread, but I believe that sort of approach would suit this project better. The question of fading the audio pieces into oneanother would be relevant in this project.

I'm not saying we should make this thing a "chain tape", like OWOV, I think that would be too much to handle, with the video and all. But we could draw some video editing ideas from OWOV.

For those who never heard of it, here's some info:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_World_One_Voice_%28album%29

The whole thing is available on YouTube as well, divided in 12 parts. It's a bit 1980's and Live Aid-ish (especially considering some of the participating artists), but try and look beyond that and imagine what the Apskaft version of this would look/sound like. And keep in mind there would be interview parts and documentary footage put in between the music videos, here and there.

  • I changed my mind and posted a playlist URL instead of each individual video. Now last.fm won't allow to delete these 3 messages with videos in. Why the hell doesn't last.fm allow me to delete this?

  • A true absurdity you'll never find in another forum software.
EVERYBODY can delete messages, except last.fm users!

  • COUNT ME IN ON THIS!

  • Sounds interesting.

  • Will this project ever start?!? Too bad, we should do it to celebrate 5th birthday of Apskaft (founded in end 2007). At least a short version, to develope further in the future.

Yeah, we really should get the ball rolling here. I am currently limited by the lack of video cameras in my house, but I suppose that can be fixed. My extremely limited video editing skills is a problem too. But we have a great asset in Hox, who is a skilled video editor, and Mr. Weirdbananas is also a great film and video maker.

Let's revive the discussion about this project, at least, then perhaps something will happen!

  • Hey, I'll make a little interview video of myself, if you guys want me to.
