    I said it was hardly (sic!) better. But Hox is probably right describing the algorithm (x-English-y). Actually, I've already told Peter in his blog that if one translates via Google Translate, the best option is to translate from English.

    It's impossible that google translate, made by americans - so people speaking a language based on 3 verbs tenses - can translate to and from languages with dozen verbs, and also verbs that mutate according to the mood (inflected). Because the translation engine (I may be wrong) seem to me is built around english and try to adapt to other languages, instead of working a super-language layer taking care of all languages features. In few words if it has to translate from french to german, it first translates from french in english, then from english to german. Translation English-Italian are already almost unusable, because italian got inflections and a dozen verbs that doesn't exist in english if not in a whole phrase construction that sostitute them. The more the translation inflates, the more errors will be. Betmax is right in recommending to go word by word: you avoid the translator mess subjects with complements, conjugate verbs by articles :-D and obtain pure dadaism.

    "One word at a time" way is hardly better. The correct variant looks somewhat like Честно говоря, я удивлен, что мы вообще общаемся. Мы все такие индивидуалисты. (Google Translate лучший!)

    I put the English version in one word at a time and the Russian version was: "для быть честный я пораженный мы общаться на все. мы являются все такие индивидуалистов. (Google Translate является здорово!)" Although if I put in the phrase "at all" instead of the 2 words separately I get "вообще" instead of "на все" and "great" comes back as "большой" if I don't use the exclamation mark.

    Actually I see what you mean now (crestfallen). I just put my "Russian" message into Google Translate one word at a time and the English translation came back as: "That be honest, I amazed we communicate on everyone. we all individualists. (Google Translate is large)."

    Every day or so Speculativism, SimiArbeit, Malabi, Betmax, NJBlessing, TinyTussKORV, and other usual suspects pop in, have look to see if any important things are happening. last.fm site - everyone's disappointed with it but it still has its uses and can't be completely abandoned without an adequate replacement.
