  • anybody out there ?

    I'm posting a comment to answer a question asked 7 years ago ! Seems like a message in a bottle... Well it may be hopeless to get an answer but who knows...

    As to the question asked, I need to say that I'm not an ambient specialist insofar as I haven't explored all the various styles existing in that incredibly complex domain. I particularly like cosmic music so it will unsurprisingly reflect in my selection.

    So here is my top 5 :

    1. Silvercord's Cronosleeps

    2. Stellardrone's Sublime

    3. Arcticology's Eternal Now

    4. Steve Roach's Mystic Chords and Sacred places

    5. Philip Wilkerson's The Way Home

    I also like music from Lucette Bourdin, Brian Eno and many more.

    As you might have noticed, most of the albums I mentioned are available for free.

    Ok, let's see where this message is drifting to !

  • I recently made a journal post with even 20 of my favorites so here you go: http://www.last.fm/user/Izhorian/journal/2013/04/05/5sjlij_20_ambient_albums_that_i_love

  • Hi !

    Thanks Izhorian ! This topic is still alive, it seems...
    I'm overloaded with work... but I'll try and check the albums on your list.

  • In no particular order

    * Global Communication - 76:14
    * Stars of the Lid - The Tired Sounds Of
    * Steve Roach - Dreamtime Return
    * Brian Eno - Apollo
    * William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops I-IV

    Other albums I wanted to throw in are Jonn Serrie's "And The Stars Go With You", Steve Roach's "The Magnificent Void", and Thomas Koner's "Nuuk"

  • Thanks Nefarious for the contribution
    It made me discover Global communication and William Basinski, which I didn't know.
    I like them both. 76.14 seems to be very visual and conducive to imagination.
    The DL are very deep and totally hypnotic... good for quiet or creative work, I guess.

    its a very difficult choice, there's too many to pick from, but these are just 5 of my favourites... I might as well explain my choices :B

    1. Ochre - Lemodie
    Any of Ochre's works could be here, but Lemodie sticks out the most in my mind. his masterful use of classical sound-bites and abstract electronics make this possibly my favourite.

    2. Plaid - Double Figure
    warp records have a soft spot for awesome, don't they? this is defiantly one of their best works in my opinion, next to Scintilli witch is also amazing.

    3. C418 - Minecraft, Volume Alpha
    I don't play minecraft, but holy shit the soundtrack is amazing. C418 effortlessly craft's these sounds into something wonderful.

    4. Gimmik - Back to Basics
    A very nice sounding little idm / ambient techno gem. again, gimmik craft's his work into something so nice.

    5. Aphex twin - Selected Ambient Works, Volume II
    A mixture of beauty and darkness; these twenty something tracks are absolutely golden. that said, you cant expect anything less from RDJ, can you?
