Group Information (English Version):

This group is for speakers of the Altaic languages, those who listen to music in Altaic languages, linguists who study the Altaic languages, those learning an Altaic language and anyone else with an interest in the Altaic languages.

While there is continuing debate over the legitimacy and nature of the Altaic language family, this group supports the view that Altaic is a legitimate language family that includes the Turkic, Mongolic, Tungusic, and Japanese-Ryukyuan language families and the Korean language.

These languages are spoken in a wide arc stretching from northeast Asia through Central Asia to Anatolia and Eastern Europe. The Altaic family is named after the Altai Mountains, a mountain range in Central Asia. The Altaic family includes about 74 living languages with a total of about 558 million speakers worldwide.

It is also worth noting that of the twelve languages that is currently available in, two of them are Altaic languages: Japanese and Turkish.
