Please do talk about other rock & Americana/Progressive Bluegrass pairings that work...or don't...or are somewhere in between.

I love the original songs that my friend Kyle Wood is writing and re-arranging to a rock format - including some Crucial Smith favorites! - for his 2010 rock n' roll solo album featuring the mandolin as a full-fledged lead rock instrument. Kyle's indie sound and high, powerful and emotive vocals are sure to appeal across many genres. I recommend Kyle's new music to fans of indie, alternative, classic rock, alt country, and progressive rock. Kyle is out of Nashville TN and was formerly the mandolinist and lead singer/songwriter (along with Tim May) for the cutting-edge newgrass band Crucial Smith who, in their heyday in the 1990s, played Telluride, Winfield, the IBMA, etc. Check out Kyle's active Facebook fan page at: for new in-studio video. takes a few listens but yeah it works and the blending and compromise of the 2 styles finds something different to either. A bit like mixing blue with red and getting purple. Worth the awards.
