Post Rock songs with RAPPERS?

  • Post Rock songs with RAPPERS?

Does anyone know any post rock bands that have hiphop vocalists, or any songs that feature a rapper?

Umm, no? The closest you'll get may be cLOUDDEAD, though it's a stretch. Conventional hip hop song structure doesn't mesh very well with post rock.

  • I know one, maybe.. dälek. I just bought two albums of them.. and they got kind of freak backgrounds.. little bit like noise.. They are now touring with Isis and I'm going to see them live soon in Helsinki.. Can't wait, I hope I won't get swine flu or something.. :D

Maybe if you stray into post-rock influenced trip-hop..

Aether have a great song featuring a rapper..

whole album is very recommended though.

    Melodic Death Metal Mod.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. .

Post-Rock with rappers? Well, that would be an original mix... and with original I don't mean interesting -_-
I just can't think of Explosions in the Sky + EMINEM in any way, if you know what I mean. But who knows, maybe next Yndi Halda album features rap vocals and turns out to be a bright idea!

  • well I think it would be original and interesting. Of course you can't just mix 50cent to mogwai, the two styles must support each others. There's some good examples like this song from The Cinematic Orchestra. IMO it's f*ucking great!

  • The guys from cLOUDDEAD are on a couple of songs on Cold House by Hood. Also, post-rock pioneer Kevin Martin has done a lot of work with emcees - notably on The Brotherhood of the Bomb by Techno Animal and Bad Blood by Ice.

  • It's also worth noting that hip-hop was one of the biggest influences on early '90s British post-rock. For instance, Disco Inferno often cited Public Enemy as one of their key influences.

  • Giardini di Mirò - Little Cesar
from North Atlantic Treaty Of Love (2006)

The self-titled sole & the skyrider band album does maybe have some hints of post-rock in it.

Also, P.O.S. - Never Better has some stuff that post-rock dudes might like. For example, check out Purexed:

    sing, sing.
  • Emancipator has a few remixes with rappers on top.

This is one over sigur ros:

    there's another of his called m836mafia with m83 and 36mafia but I can't find a link.

  • It's appalling that 50 Cent and Eminem were mention here. =/

Anyways, yeah, it's not as outlandish as some uninitiated folk might think. I watched KRS-One rap over Spring - Antonio Vivaldi live. All rap needs is a rhythm.

  • Emancipator's Sigur Rós remix was awesome and genius.. but rapping on the godspeed's "Sleep" the ending part (the most beautiful piece of art by them) doesn't impress me.. it's just that some music man shall not touch..

try that, it's not post-rock but its ethos is similar in some ways, and regardless of genre it's weird (but in a sick way)

  • can t believe no one mentioned Pawa Up First they have at least a track or two on each of their three albums that feature hip hop vocals ones in french and ones in spanish even ....

  • CASPER! hes a german rapper (lived in america for few years) and soon he will release a new album with post-rock/rock/rap

  • Why would anybody want to listen to such an abomination?

  • because its freaking awesome

  • Stuff

I think that it would be better to not think of rap as a whole in this case, but what it is in essence; poetry and spoken word. Look not of mainstream rappers, but some of of the best slam poets of our time.

It's more of this that I think all of us were searching for here, and are suggesting there should be more of. I don't think any of us came here with 50 cent and explosions in the sky in mind (that truly would be an abomination.) But if we could find lyricists who show the same passion in their words that many post-rock bands show in their music, I think it would be well worth delving into a new sub-genre of music and spoken word.
