A film by Chris and Emmett Malloy, A Broke Down Melody follows in the vein of other Woodshed films like The September Sessions, Thicker Than Water, and Shelter. These films are quite opposite the modern day surf film that was pionereed by Taylor Steele in the early ninetees. While other films attempt to capture the raw energy and excitement that surfing creates, these films attempt to document the powerful emotions and depth that is inherent within surfing. They seek to bring forth a more profound meaning through beautiful cinematography and music. For anyone who wants to a more spiritual side of modern day surfing, this film is for you.

A Brokedown Melody follows swell through South America, Polynesia and Jamaica. Documenting in 16mm film the surfing of Kelly Slater, Gerry Lopez, Jack Johnson, Mike Todd, Mark Cunningham, C.J. Hobgood, The Wilmots, The Malloys and Rob Machado.
