Thats a pretty big generalisation... there were still great jazz musicians in the 40's. Esp. the wartime swing and the bebop in the later 40's.

I agree! The 40s jazz is amazing. I think I'd even have to say that the 40s jazz is better than both the 20s and 30s.

Looks to be a terrific group - I hope Tom isn't upset to find I've signed him up as a member - I'm sure he'll love it. A lot of knowledgeable folks here to learn from. Typing's easy - I just wish I could play! (it's a paw thing)...

bentrovati cari amici. Per i contributi alle discussioni ho notevoli difficoltà con l'inglese.......proverò con i traduttori. A presto e BUON ASCOLTO A TUTTI.

The Original Dixieland Jazz band is usually credited with the first jazz recordings (1917). Ten years earlier, though, Vess L. Ossman who is usually considered a ragtime artist recorded an almost jazzy version of "Maple Leaf Rag". Worth checking out: http://www.archive.org/details/VessLOssman (public domain).

Pink Floyd? The Beach Boys? The Carpenters? Obviously, there's something amiss with the Radio playlist ...
