  Thats a pretty big generalisation... there were still great jazz musicians in the 40's. Esp. the wartime swing and the bebop in the later 40's.

  The Original Dixieland Jazz band is usually credited with the first jazz recordings (1917). Ten years earlier, though, Vess L.
