15 Jan 2007, 18:50 by bad_sectorIt's both uncanny and sad. I spent a large chuck of Saturday re-listening to my Alice Coltrane albums, and today I hear that she passed away on Friday at age 69. Cause of death was respiratory failure.
21 Jul 2006, 12:48 by IanARTo help y'all chill-out, in your hammocks, and in early celebration of the Downtempo welcoming it's 300th member, I've put together a tag-combo PTT station, composed of my PTTs, which fit within the downtempo style/genre
ambient breakbeat electronica
ambient techno electronica
I guess, there're over 400 hand-picked tracks here, so over 30 hours of top chilled-out listening! If you like a track you hear, on this station, please tag it cocktails at sunset (and downtempo, if you're feeling energetic), as well as over-tagging with whichever of the above tag(s) seem appropriate to you. No atrist or album tagging, please.
Otherwise, please let me know what you think of it, overall
If you hear any bloopers, please post about them here and I'll look into it.
20 Jul 2006, 20:06 by IanARWell it's news to me, anyhow. Today, I noticed farmerlister, on my dash', playing Global Tag Radio: chillosophy, jazz hop, jazz-hop, hip hop jazz, hip-hop-jazz, jazz hip hop, trip-hop jazz. At first I wondered what was going on, but soon I realised that he'd strung together a bunch of related tag-names and was playing their global incarnation. Wow!
I've subsequently tried this to combine some of my smaller PTTs, to make a station that plays, across all the tags, even though some of them have less than fifteen tracks, when taken alone.
So far, I've been jigging about to Mambo + ChaChaCha (aka Cha-Cha) and now, I have an afro !
Yes, thank you Betty Davis, but no, what I mean is - I have a station composed of all my tags that start with "afro" Marvelous!
Edit: Thanx to cloudtrapeze, it's been found that "+"s (in replacement of spaces, within tag names), are not well supported, for tag-combo's. The combo's above've been modified accordingly.
15 Jul 2006, 03:31 by IanARDeep joy!
Back on, only, 9 Jun 2006, I tagged 4 Hours (Original Single Mix), one of my all-time fav'e post-punk releases, as obscure yet streamable post-punk/Sheffield. My criteria for this tag's that, the track has less listeners than a 10th the Last.fm population of Brazil (currently 525). Well, the good news is that it now has 753 listeners, on Last.fm, and the world is set to rights. So, I've re-tagged him to formerly obscure yet streamable post-punk/Sheffield.
What's more, that same's true of White Cell and Moments, both same-day tagged OYS. It look's like word's getting around Last.fm, about Clock DVA and the great Thirst album. The album's one where C'DVA developed the, Cabaret Voltaire inspired, Sheffield electro' new-wave sound©, into the jazzyer side of post-punk. A territory also inhabited by, the likes of: The Pop Group, Rip Rig & Panic & MILTON - with The Lounge Lizards heading in, the other way, from the jazz arena. Latter, they found a more generally palatable formula, with the dark/dub electronica style, that they seem best known for today.
BTW: Whilst we're on the subject, I hope y'all know of Jah Wobble! No? After all the above, in London, after 3 Mustaphas 3 had invented worldbeat, two of his bands Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart & Jah Wobble and Temple of Sound brilliantly infused all of the above!
Give Thanks And Praises said:
When my soul was hurtin' deep within,
And I'm worrying to be free, desperately, yeah.
So guide and protect I'n'I, O Jah - Jah,
Through all these ages;
Guide and protect I'n'I, O Jah - Jah,
Through all these stages.
Rastafari is his Name (Jah!) -
Rastafari is his Name (Jah!).
If Jah didn't love I (love I),
If I didn't love I (love I),
If Jah didn't love I (love I),
If I didn't love I,
Would I be around today?
Would I be around to say:
Give thanks and praises, give thanks and praises;
Give thanks and praises, give thanks and praises;
Give thanks and praises, give thanks and praises. *fadesout*
25 Jun 2006, 03:42 by IanARI moved here, to AudioScrobbler, from Yahoo! LAUNCHcast, about eighteen months ago. Since then I've scrobbled about 60,000 plays. I've spent a lot of time exploring what's streamable, on Last.fm, hence my charts are unusually rich with streamables. Recently, I've been seeking out much more obscure streamables, with help from my friends at: LAYSA, Lelb and BEREP. So, my charts're not a good representation on my general listening, where most tracks have less than 500 listeners. However, I thought it might be entertaining to make a station of the top streamable tracks, from my track chart, alla Pure Track-Taggers. I've chosen to include a number of tracks that's a 250th of my plays, i.e. 240 streamable tracks and here they are ...

30 Dec 2005, 00:43 by krukso I guess it's time for me to try to sum up the best sounds humans have made this year.
2005 was not to bad. after rather weak 5 months, june came on to be the firestarter.
my musical preference spectrum has widened considerably, which makes me satisfied.
the thought that i've definitely missed out something precious in music feeds my manical tendences, though.
naturally, i'll've probably forget sth great that i actually listened to.
let's list the nominees with more or less witty remarks by the author of this text:
strong, very strong. street beats that taste like chocolate. on top - insightful lyrics. check Corners for the wickedest rhyming technique i've heard. the whole song seems to be one rhyme.
Dust My Broom
the hottest, sexiest, mellowest downtempo record of the year and i'll bet my ass on that. best follow-up album in the chillout genre, and i've been listening to a lot of it for some time now. haven't heard it yet? trust and mark words of wisdom: -GET IT!
feels like angels playing rock music. blissful, sophisticated, harmonious, symphonic, anthemic at times. it's why people fall in love with music. these guys opened next doors in musical education for me. few have been able to do that.
New World Observer
now, this is a proof that canadians can actually do sth more than pronounce 'about' in a funny way. wonderful world of dub-techno and musical minimalism. feels like you're in a submarine.
i listened to this chick blaze the mic on diplo's mixtapes and felt she's a diamond. arular blew me off my feet after an initial displeasure. urban party music of the third millenium so far.
this makes me proud. a great sophomore album by the polish installment on ninja tune. noir jazz that feels retro and modern at the same time. with a polish flavor.
- little brother - "the minstrel show" - hip-hop should always sound sweet and smart like this
- sufjan stevens - "illinoise" - this guy makes such simple, yet beautiful melodies. john lennon of the 21st century?
- boards of canada - "the campfire headphase" - nothing new, so why can't you stop listening to it?
- markus schulz - "miami '05" - great progressive trance. hard to press stop here.
- amon tobin - "splinter cell chaos theory" - pop music of robots. strong as usual.
- quasimoto - further adventures of lord quas" - the wicked mind of madlib in all glory.
- felt 2 (murs and slug) "a tribute to lisa bonet"- very nice and very different. has a soul feeling to it. check "marvin gaye".
- alex under - "dispostitivos de mi granja" - minimal beats, maximum fun.
apart from skalpel, polish acts will come in another post.
13 Nov 2005, 18:51 by krukfall has come and gets grayer and grayer every day. the sun...yeah...where is it? golden-brown leaves stick to my windows. wind swirls and chills. it's getting colder every day. i'm starting to think about christmas to stop me from gettin an autumn depression.
i got around a couple of albums that suit the weather perfectly. i love listening to them on my headphones in a cozy, warm room, lookin at the rest of colorful green world disappearing from the land...
Sigur Ros - Takk (btw, i don't know why this album suddenly disappeared from Last.fm)
this one will be perfect for until the end of christmas. warm, lovely sounds, make me happy.
Man With a Movie Camera
the last album by The CO I've listened to. I put it off a looong time, now I enjoy it very much. Sounds very similar to Every Day (one of my favorite albums ever) at times, like an alternative take. very lush and atmospheric.
Sao Paulo Confessions
this gem will keep you so hot in late fall. Irresistible brazilian chill made by a...CROATIAN! With the help of sweet-and-sexy Cibelle who i also recommend very much.
Skalpel - Konfusion
a new installment by polish act in ninja tune. so precise, sophisticated, yet playful and freestyle. a must have. much deeper and darker than the excellent debut Skalpel
Last but not least:
Kanał Audytywny - Neurofotoreceptoreplotyka Jako Magia Bytu
an excellent polish] release rooted deep in the jazz territory and experimenting with abstract hip-hop beats, denser trip-hop feel, and ambient sound. They've got an MC (MC l.u.c.), too. He raps in polish which is a pity, because he spits awesome, abstract rhymes.
It's a follow-up album to "Płyta Skirtotymiczna", a great record, too.
They sound as well as Skalpel in terms of musical quality, but got a different signature sound. They could easily record for Ninja Tune, i think.
if you'd like to try any of the albums i can be reached @ SLSK as vincent-vega. i highly recommend Kanał Audytywny.
