Description:
Against Digital Music: last.fm's most pathetic group?

Probably.

You might as well have a group called "Against Percussion Instruments" or "No More Woodwind!".

The idea is fatuous, the scope so overly broad as to be meaningless.

The opinions expressed within are based on either musical narrow-mindedness from people with a complete lack of knowledge, or, at the other extreme (and probably worse), the kind of pretension that obtains just enough of a basic grasp of music theory to canonise needlessly complex, flatulent prog-rock song structures as The Mighty King of Everything™ (hi, Tool fans!) and subsequently airily condemns anything simpler, more fun, etc., as somehow innately of less worth.

Great big fat glands to that, my friends.

NB: Any girls wishing to join this group will be provided, as a courtesy, with a prosthetic dick for "Against Digital Music" to suck.
Or you may substitute a femme-friendly alternative body part.

The thing with digital/electronic music is that you can get timbres and sounds that would be physically impossible for a "real" instrument to produce. That's why it's awesome. You're basically not limited by the laws of physics and motion in that regard.

What I ment by that is that with acoustic music, you’re stuck to a 'set sound', but with electronic music, you can create any kind of sound. In my opinion anyway :|

"Digital music has more freedom!" —not necessarily, I wouldn't characterize most of the electronic music you listen to as 'more free' than a lot of purely acoustic music out there. If you think breakcore or idm are particularly radical genres of music you have a lot of homework to do. (Not that not being 'radical' makes them bad, I'm just saying.)

I happen to be a huge metal fan, also love punk. who cares what people use to create music? I make a lot of computer generated harsh noise. I did play guitar for a long time as well. any collection of sounds can be music.

To create a group against digital music is just stupid. People using since more than 300 years helpful electric stuff in music.

Obviously, the creator of the group was a metalhead and all the connected artists are metal. Only a meatlhead would be so ignorant.

I used to suffer from that strange allergy against everything digital or electronic. But then I thankfully got some sense knocked into me and now consider myself fully healed.

top artist list at the moment (14th Jan 2010), FYI, goes 1. Aphex Twin 2. The Gerogerigegege 3. John Coltrane 4. My Bloody Valentine 5. Venetian Snares 6. Boris 7. Animal Collective 8. Coil 9. Slowdive 10. Joy Division. so just the usual selection of predictable Top 40-starring planet-conquering rock megastars then!!!! *blank stare*

any group with more than about 20 members gets Radiohead in the Top Artist charts. that's probably because they have a wide-ranging appeal to people with otherwise diverse and dissimilar tastes. get over it, you giant whiny baby.

I was late getting here but this is just so funny. I know these things are obvious but I am going to write them anyway: 1. Last time I checked, my record player couldn't scrobble the vinyl I play! So, if they are not listening to mp3s/ ripped CD's, how do our Luddite friends actually generate any stats on last.fm? Hmmm, I smell digitalness... 2. Many of the metal bands they listen to record into ProTools, use digital cut 'n' paste to edit drum parts (hands up Metallica), etc, etc. Even if they own a vinyl LP from any of these these bands (unlikely), it's a digital recording in the first place! "All analog signal path" vinyl releases are relatively rare these days...
