14 nov. 2008, 2h31m par rockrobster23If like me you are or have ever been a mixtape maker, you know that the most devastating words you can ever hear while your tape is playing are, "Let's put on something else." And the most devastating time to hear those words is midway through side 1, when you have started to think that your audience is maybe, probably digging the fruit of your labors bent over the cassette deck. During the first or second song, a rejection only indicates (you tell yourself) "you just don't like the concept!" and you say, "That's OK, let's try this other one." But midway through side 1, you've already eroded your credibility, and someone else is going to seize control, which means you have lost power.
Yes, I am a mixtape authoritarian, but having never employed a personal security force of gentlemen in brown shirts, I bow to the will of the people when their will is made manifest, such as through irritated comments like, "What is this shit, anyway?"

It's Beatles Week! Day 7: The Latter Years and The End
The strain and tensions and somewhat divisive reactions experienced during the middle years for sure came from the combined pressure of the write-record-tour schedule and the massive success & fame that didn't allow them to go unrecognized and free in their lives. Eliminating touring no doubt eased the pressure on the schedule, but it only created space that began to move them in different directions. The schism began to appear between Paul McCartney and John Lennon with the death of Brian Epstein in the summer of 1967.
With Brian's death there was no overseeing influence to bring them together and help them meld ideas into a common purpose. Paul immediately saw that someone needed to step into that role to hold the band together. He took that role himself. Immediately he brought the idea for Magical Mystery Tour, which turned out to be a flop and widely considered the band's first failure. …
30 mai 2008, 22h20m par Bawm79Some statistics of my Beatles iTunes song top 79 (****/*****), as of 30-5-2008:
Number of songs (mostly) written by Paul McCartney: 25
Number of songs (mostly) written by John Lennon: 29
Number of songs written (almost) equally by both: 16
Number of songs written by George Harrison: 8
Number of songs written by Ringo Starr: 0
So slightly more Lennon than McCartney, quite a lot of Harrison compared to the relatively few number of songs he has written for the Beatles and no Starr at all.
The album with the most top positions is 'The White Album', with 16, but of course, being a double album this is somewhat expected. The somewhat overrated Abbey Road only has 7 positions though.
Scoring second, at the moment, is Rubber Soul with 9 positions, followed by Revolver and the aforementioned Abbey Road. The annoyingly overrated Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band only has 4 positions in my top 79. Lowest scoring album is Yellow Submarine, with just one position: Hey Bulldog.
