  • Amazing
  • Realy feelin it, tight album
  • Super cool that these guys are back!!!! Some awesome insight in this interview:
  • Fair enough on Snoop (I just hate seeing that word used all the time) but it is not a little unfair to call the album "tired"? You're not feeling it, fair enough, but the album's throwback vibe is deliberate and the album's sound shouldn't fool you into believing that Souls is a group incapable of transcending the boom bap era or that old Heiro sound. Plus, I think the concept is kind of ambitious, even if some of the tracks meander a little... Point is, despite the fact that they're probably on the cusp of winding down, I don't think Souls are on a downward trajectory. Montezuma's Revenge was really excellent.
  • Love the new album. Adrian Younge always delivers. [2]

  • The new album is solid. It's not Montezuma's Revenge but it's decent. Any post that attacks an artist for being "irrelevant" or collaborating with someone deemed "irrelevant" should be ignored. It's the most pointless, snotty pejorative term around - not least because of its subjectivity. What exactly is "relevant" vividserenity? You'd think perpetrators would be more careful with their words when discussing underground hip-hop acts that are neither experimenting with "hip" sounds (or at all) nor riding a wave of hype. The reason is because a lot of folks believe the word “relevant” should only be applied to artists that are restlessly creative, on the forefront of a "new" vanguard and/or unaffiliated with a genre/scene seemingly in decline. It shouldn't be about all that (especially considering the bullshit so often invented by clueless music critics, never mind the politics behind who gets x amount of exposure etc.), it should be about making good music, regardless of the details.
