Inspired by Mark_H's fine lists, I've decided to publish my ratings of albums. This is my list of prog albums released from 2000 thru 2009 and you can find links to my other lists on my profile page.
I rate every song on an album based on the following criteria.
10 - Masterpiece
9 - Excellent
8 - Very good
7 - Nice
6 - Average
5 - Could be better
4 - Don't like it
3 - Bad
2 - Horrible
1 - Can't listen to it
When rating an album, I calculate its weighted average considering each song's duration. I also consider previous works released by the artist that I know of, so I can adjust ratings from time to time.
Albums rated around 7 or above are recommended.
Albums rated around 6 are average and you could give it a try to see if you like it.
So, here is my list, which will be updated as I rate new albums or adjust some ratings. Feel free to leave your comments ;-)
01. (=) echolyn - mei (2002) - 8.62

22 août 2011, 21h25m par Neue_regel_As Frank Zappa said: "most rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for people who can't read." Extremely true, if you ask me. However, I'll try my best in this little journal role. Of course, there are thousands upon thousands of music genres. Nevertheless, only a few can boast and entail a sheer bombastic splendour without simultaneously losing any edge of intellectual honesty and rigor. Definitely, progressive metal is one of those. From wiki: " Progressive metal (sometimes known as prog metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal, which blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, diverse philosophical lyrics and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock. Many progressive metal bands are also influenced by jazz fusion and classical music. Like progressive rock songs, progressive metal songs are typically much longer".

6 jan. 2010, 13h29m par Mark_HWhen rating prog albums I try to do so in a historical context, that is how an album compares against the entire body of Prog. This means that the best album for any given year, which most people would rate with top marks may not receive the same rating in my charts as only the best albums of all time should get the highest ratings... This chart does not include compilations or live albums.
Note: I vote on a bell curve, anything above 6 is really good, anything much below 4 really isn't :D

4 juin 2009, 15h41m par Hellfan2009 has so far seemed to be a fruitful year for Prog. Actually, many bands are riding on the crest of the wave with their new albums. Let me name some that have blown my mind:
Delirium - Il nome del vento
A nostalgic flash-back to the roots of 70’s Italian Prog. After the first spin, I was fairly certain this was a fantastic work. And now , after perpetual rounds on my PC, I could even say the latest effort from Delirium is a top-class Prog album. I’ve been totally impressed with the lush symphonic moments, gorgeous tunes, superb techniques as well as harmonic textures. It’s too bad that not many people know such a great act.
Stand-out tracks: Dopo il Vento, Verso il Naufragio,…
My rating: 9/10
Martigan – Vision
What an album ! An incredible brew of old values & fresh materials. This music is exactly what I’ve expected from Neo Prog in its new era. It’s actually occupied my mind for many consecutive days. And the more I listen to this pure gem the more it grows on me. …
