30 déc. 2014, 14h32m par nassuttaja2It is once again time to list some stuff. It is also once again time for me to wonder why the hell I always leave making this list to the last couple of weeks before the year ends. One would think that I'd learn something from a mistake I have now made for five years in a row... oh well. I recently went through my lists from 2012 and 2013, and I am surprised by how well they still hold up in 2014 (in the lists from 2009 to 2011 things start to get a bit funky). I guess my taste hasn't changed that radically over the last three or so years in terms of disliking things I have liked in the past, but the scale of my listening habits has definitely grown in terms of new interests. As always, this year's list is very much all over the place, but that is how I like it. This is a true representation of the type of stuff that I enjoy listening to on a daily basis. None of the albums listed made it because I thought they deserved to be included, but because I wanted them to be included.

The years have come and gone, and yet for some odd reason I still receive requests for my 'Best Of' journal entries in Heavy Metal, as well as several other genres. Why I still receive these requests I have no idea, but I've relented on being an e-seclusionist curmudgeon and eternally lazy long enough to post my Best in Heavy Metal of 2012 list. I hope whatever poor soul or bored last.fm troll that reads this dated meandering of metal finds something that they haven't otherwise heard or thought to listen to since '12. Unlike the previous journal entry, many if not most of the reviews here are sourced from other writers, webzines, and various publications as noted at the bottom of the review. Also, I encourage any suggestions for albums released in 2012 that I've omitted as it's painfully obvious from my list that I can't possibly listen to everything out there.
4 jan. 2014, 10h46m par skimeMusical Summary - 2013
With album ranking and description - http://rateyourmusic.com/list/skime_/2013
I’m good-natured person and I don’t like giving bad marks to albums, because every artist are working hard for this what we’re listening.. So if there is a bad mark, it is really unpleasant sound for me. There are mostly albums of folk, viking, pagan, black, melodic death, doom, power, progressive, symphonic and heavy metal.
Meaning of marks:
< 4/10 - N/C
5/10 – Medium albums, not to say ... bad.
6/10 – Average albums, not really "thrilling".
7/10 – Good albums but no revelations, something is missing..
8/10 – Very good albums, they keep a nice level.
9/10 – Super albums, revelations of this year.
10/10 – Masterpieces, will be remembered for years.
Cult of Luna - Vertikal - 9.1/10
Hate - Solarflesh - 8.6/10
Fen - Dustwalker - 8.4/10
Hanging Garden - At Every Door - 8.3/10
Magic Circle - Magic Circle - 8.2/10

This year was pretty exceptional for the kind of music I like to listen to, there were so many more standout albums than past years and it was really hard to cut a line between the best and the not-quite-the-best albums…
In alphabetical order...

24 fév. 2013, 2h41m par XfnSnowWasn't it incredible? Even though this is my most extensive list since I started doing these - it still feels like there are things missing. The majority of albums here have a proper review, but there are some I really wanted to include but never quite got around to giving the treatment. This is about giving appreciation to artists who've created something that has enriched my life. Lowest rated at the top, scroll down to ascend the list in terms of quality. EVERYTHING I include I wholeheartedly recommend. It wouldn't be on here if I didn't.

2011 was another great year for music, there was so much great shit released by hard working groups and labels that again it was a tough year to make a list. I always feel as though I should wait like a month or two after the new year to make a list like this since I do usually miss an amazing record and regret not putting it on the list. Going from #20 to #1 this time.
Enjoy and GFYS.
#20. SubRosa - No Help For The Mighty Ones
Label: Profound Lore Records
Beneath the Crown
I still can’t get over how those violins sound like trumpets, and its just so cool. What a great sludge/doom release that I was very surprised by. Majority females in this band with a semi-Neurosis/A Storm of Light aesthetic and sound floating about it, melancholic with a psychedelic flavor sprinkled throughout. …
4 sept. 2010, 2h31m par h20sI STOPPED UPDATING THIS A WHILE AGO
I give in, and have finally posted one of these. This is only bands I've paid attention to live, though doesn't necessarily mean that I liked them, but that means I didn't count every band that played while I was at the hot dog line at some festival.
I also left out a fair amount of local bands, yet included others. I'm not entirely sure why, but that's the way it is.
