the college i go to offers an online history of rock and roll class, so this semester i enrolled for some easy credits. plus, its nice to be required to study something i study anyways.
so i got the $170 text book (thats a shit ton of money for all of you who dont do the whole US currency thing) and it came with a 2 CD set of listening samples. well i suppose you cant really call them samples because its the whole song.... anyways, after careful examination of the track list of said CDs, i couldnt help but wonder how it was decided that those songs represented all of the history of rock and roll, from roots to present.
without listening, i was probably happiest with the inclusion of Rock And Roll
. after listening to it and discovering it was an obscure live version, i was less impressed. don't get me wrong, im all for collecting/listening to/appreciating all live/rare/whatever music created by awesome bands such as The Velvet Underground
