17 jan. 2010, 23h35m par stardust_beAt the beginning of 2010 it is time to look back at the past 10 years in music. I seriously began listening to music around 2000 and while at first i was listening to only a couple of records each year, thanks to the internet and recommendations from various forums and blogs my music collection has grown in ways i certainly couldn't imagine back then. Music has been very important to me and these are the records which formed the soundtrack of my life the past decade. Because i'm a list addict i've also included my favorite tv-shows and movies.
Happy new decade!
1. Arcade Fire - Funeral (2004)
2. Sophia - De Nachten (2001)
3. Josh Ritter - Hello Starling (2003)
4. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning (2005)
16 nov. 2009, 16h22m par reinderdNow that I'm staying in Tennessee, where I'll be permanently moving next year, I'm buying physical cd's again. My latest purchases:
Richard Thompson: Daring Adventures (BGO reissue, 1994) one of the last few Thompson albums I didn't have yet. As usual, it's wonderful.
Alice Cooper Triple Feature containing Trash, Hey Stoopid and The Last Temptation for $11. These are probably the closest I have to a guilty pleasure; I consider these latterday Cooper albums to be cheese, but they're cheese I happen to like - or at least the songs I already knew from those albums, which make the package worth spending a few bucks on. If half the other tracks are any good at all, I'll have got my money's worth at a price that's cheaper than iTunes.
Fleet Foxes: Sun Giant EP. Compared to most of my other favorites, they're noticable for not being an old fogey baby boomer band - but they sound like one! I like them because I'm hearing early Fairport Convention in them, and some The Byrds.
7 avr. 2009, 12h27m par KaitjuThat's right, it's going to be a singles update only.
Let's start with the promised Doves rant. Like so many times before, the first single is track no.2 from the upcoming album. And like so many times before, it's a good one but maybe not the best one. Anyways, Kingdom of Rust reminds me of a lot of the song The Last Broadcast. It must be the beat. Definitely looking forward to the new album.
Keane managed to disappear pretty well by the time they got to single no.3 of Perfect Symmetry titled Perfect Symmetry. No wonder, it's a bit dull. They could've chosen better.
Another one in the series of "Yes, I've just found Wild Beasts" is the single "The Devil's Crayon". It's a great song and it presents another vocal talent in that band in addition to Hayden Thorpe. Recommended.
I had not been too impressed with Foals back when Cassius came out. It's post-punky jerkiness seemed a bit too masturbatory compared to, for example, The Futureheads or The Young Knives. …
1 fév. 2009, 4h27m par desaparecid0It's a bit late I know. Everyone else's came out like 2 months ago. I'm a slacker. Also, given enough time to think about it, I will continue to re-evaluate and shuffle things around on any given list. So here. I'll stop changing my list and set it in stone.
