2009 was quite a year. A lot happened in the world, in my life, and in music. In theory, those all seem like distinct things - but retrospectively, they can be hard to differentiate from one another. Events blur together, timelines become jumbled, memories get obscured by the haze of passing time; memories of how I felt, memories of people I know (or knew), and memories of the music that soundtracked it all. Most people seem content to simply let these things slip into the past, marching merrily into the future, but I'm never able to fully let go, it seems, and this process of archiving my favorite albums of the year reflects that in a big way.
When I look back at this list in the year(s) to come, I'm not going to see an objective list of the best albums of 2009; I'm not even going to see a list I agree with anymore. …

20 déc. 2009, 23h50m par foxes48_84Here is my latest good songs cd, it is probably about number 50 since I changed the name of the cds around 22 or 23 and started counting over again (because of a drastic change in music taste). Now I'm already back up to 27:
1.Thrice - The Messenger
A really short song, but a lot of aggresion in it has made me come back to it after having this release for quite some time.
2.The Helio Sequence - Can't Say No
It took me awhile, but I suddenly "got" this cd, listening to it on the way home from work recently.
3.Discovery - So Insane
This is not the best song on the cd (that would be Osaka Loop Line, which is one of my top songs of 2009, and I have it on a previous Good Songs cd), but it's still very good and super catchy.
4.Sigur Ros - Voka (Live)
Sigur Ros is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands after discovering them a little while back. This song has incredible emotion.
5.RX Bandits - In Her Drawer
I've been somewhat addicted to this song and the cd that…

13 jui. 2009, 14h45m par JohnCa55illoThe following appears on my blog, Animal Noises- feel free to check it out.
Label: XL Recordings
Due Out: July 7th
So everybody's pretty much been waiting all summer for this one. Good thing the guys decided to release it the first week of July. If you're not in the know, Discovery is Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot's Wes Miles. Though the partnership isn't really a shocker- both bands gained rave reviews for their 2008 indie pop debuts- this collection is unique nonetheless. Rather than try to recreate the respective sounds of their bands, Batmanglij and Miles ditched the 'indie' part of their pre-assigned genre, and instead, embraced their inner DJs. LP is simple. It's synths, interspersed with club beats and even some of samples of their own bands' songs. If you enjoy the bands separately, and/or have an affinity for electronic pop, dig in.
