A few years ago for the PeaceOut festival, the annual festival, I put together a compilation CD I called "Back in the Gay." The theme of the compilation was music with spoken word dealing with the topic of homosexuality. About half the tracks predate modern hip hop.

Some of the tracks from the compilation, which I did in 2003, have subsequently been sampled by Deep Dickollective.

Here's the liner notes that I put together:

    1. “Soft Pedal Blues” — Bessie Smith/Ruby Smith (1925) 5:09
    2. “New Woman” — Ray Bourbon (1957) 2:39
    3. “(Ain't No Reason) For Girls to be Lonely” — Bobby Marchan (1968) 2:49
    4. Pearl Box Revue (circa 1970) 6:50
    5. “Jimmy's Got a Little Bit of Bitch in Him” — Funkadelic (1974) 2:33
    6. “Be Cool (Willie Is Dancing with a Sissy)” — Joe Tex (1977) 5:22
    7. “I Was Born This Way” — Carl Bean (1978) 6:34
    8. “Hip Hop Be Bop” — Man Parrish (1982) 5:30
    9. “Meatrack Man” — Walter Lacey (1982) 2:39
