From a guy who was listening to Billy Joel since he put out Streetlife Serenade, THIS is my absolute favorite song of his, and that's saying something considering just how many AMAZING songs he has in his repertoire.
Joel started writing this in the early 1980's about a relationship he then had with supermodel Elle MacPherson. Their backgrounds were so different that he knew the relationship would fail, which it did. He predicted the end of the relationship with the line "And you can have this heart to break."
A song which perfectly captures what it feels like to take a chance on love again in the aftermath of heartbreak -- "But if my silence made you leave/Then that would be my worst mistake/So I will share this room with you/And you can have this heart to break." Exquisitely simple and lovely.
I brought you blue roses, you and the band.. Did'nt follow through as usual... Gorgeous song.. My heart is all a flutter.. Stay forever, until we leave this earth, I hope we expire together... I would give up my life for you.....Will you still need me, willyou still feed me when hopefully I become64...!!! So to speak... Billy Joel is a very talented singer songwriter/// Always adored his work.....
Beautiful song-- I've always loved this song, and love to perform it.
