The Champagne Socialists debut single out now!

Even though our ears are still buzzing from the recent SF visits of Summer Cats and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, we're not planning on resting on our laurels any time soon. Another week, another classic Slumberland 7" single!

Formed by Jihae from The Royal We and Wallace from Bricolage, The Champagne Socialists are one of the freshest sounding groups we've heard in ages. Coming on like Sparks produced by Joe Meek and Phil Spector, the band has a flair for echoey three minute symphonies, marrying classic pop melodies with punk-informed crunch and glam-infused 70s stomp. Blue Genes is their first release and it's a pretty flawless statement of intent for this sharp new band. Sparked by a catchy guitar riff and rama-lama drums, "Blue Genes" jumps from the speakers and heads straight for your feet, sure to pack the dancefloor and get you hand-clapping along with the chorus. "Young Runways" goes straight for a Shadow Morton vibe, kicked-off by a revving motorcycle and jumping into an updated slice of girl-group goodness that re-imagines the Shangri Las as they might have sounded playing at CBGBs in 1976, with nods to Blondie and Shop Assistants along the way. It’s a timeless sound: fuzzy riffs, pounding rhythms and tales of teenage love and lust. In other words - classic POP. All copies pressed on mint-green vinyl.

Is it possible to have too many amazing records coming out? Up next in two weeks are two new Searching For The Now splits, featuring exclusive songs from Liechtenstein, The Faintest Ideas, The School and George Washington Brown. Following that we'll have fresh singles from Devon Williams and Sic Alps, and remarkable EPs from Brown Recluse and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Farther into the fall things get really fun, with Brilliant Colors debut album and a brand new Pants Yell! album.

It's awfully hard to believe that Slumberland has been around for almost twenty years now. When we started I couldn't imagine doing much more than putting out a few singles, and now here we are over 100 releases later and still chugging along. To help us celebrate this cool milestone, we're putting together a series of shows in November that will take place in two or three US cities and include an impressive roster of Slumberland bands both old and new. These shows are going to be pretty special, so please keep an eye on our blog ( for more info soon.

Until next time-
Ma, Pa and Theo Slumber
