Where Rock Lives

Welcome to your new home for progressive rock radio - streaming live at and going out over the new digital airwaves at 102.7-HD2 in New York City. If the place feels a bit familiar it's probably because the original WNEW-FM, the legendary NYC rock station that helped break artists like Bruce Springsteen and The Police, will live on here alongside groundbreaking artists of today like My Morning Jacket, Spoon and The Raconteurs.

    I've been trying to figure out the name of a group from the early 70's, They were from one of the Scandinavian countries and featured a blond female lead singer? Their music wasn't your typical rock sound and NEW FM was one of the few stations you could hear their music.

    There was a sweet instrumental piece that Roscoe played before signing off each night, (Allison Steele would follow). Does anyone out there remember the name of that instrumental piece Roscoe played? I think it was played on a piano.

    Hey, looking for WNEW broadcast, March 17, 1979 of Horslips tour behind The Man Who Built America...would like to be able to use it at one of the ongoing Horslips exhibitions which have been held throughout Ireland, and very successfuly I might add. Please contact if someone has tapes of this broadcast-preferably the stations tapes.

    Woo Hoo!! Happiness is finding out that your favorite radio station in the whole world came back. I sounds corny. I moved to Colorado in 1995. I came back a few years later and tried to tune it in on the radio. I was crushed by what I found. Then I tried finding a web site. I found shock jocks and "boob-o-lanterns". Soooo sad. But you know they say nothing lasts forever. I recently found a web site where you could create playlists. I've been trying to recapture the old magic there. I typed in a web search for WNEW top 1027 list thinking I might pull something from an archive somewhere. Boy was I delighted to find that WNEW is still alive, well and streaming on the internet. WELCOME BACK!! :}

    That longer version of "Living for the City" was routinely played on FM stations (like WNEW-FM) in the 70s when it it was first popular. It's a masterpiece in its original form. As you might have guessed, there was an AM edit which is now played on oldies stations. It doesn't even make sense to me without the interlude; it's no wonder you don't hear it much any more. If I hear the edited version now I just change the station. Anyway, thank GOODNESS for, playing these nearly forgotten works. "New York City, just like I pictured it... skyscrapers and everything." :)

    Excellent - they are starting to stretch - and I'm looking forward to more. WNEW just played a version of Stevie Wonder's "Just Enough for the City" that I've never heard before. Not sure if it's a long version or what, but it certainly told more of the story, with a different tone than might be/have been popular or even allowed over the air. I really enjoy finding the new mixed in with the old, and the new IN the old. Excellent NEW. Keep it up.

    WOW!!! WNEW FM IS BACK. I have always held a warm spot in my heart for NEW. I often tell younger friends of mine about the Radio Station that they missed out on. I especially remember the honor of being in the studio with the great ALLISON STEELE one night during her broadcast in 1972. Scott and Allison are smiling. What a treat to have WNEW FM back! I always just stop at 102.7 and remember for a moment as I continue on to 104.3 which is about as close as we have had as a substitute.....but there has NEVER been a substitute for WNEW FM. The Night Bird flies again in spirit!!

    I live in Connecticut, and I grew up listening to WNEW-FM. Life & Radio, just hasn't been the same, since they went off the air, back in '99 or 2000. I remember ALL of the original WNEW DJ's, Roscoe, Dave Herman, Pete Fornatale, SCOTT MUNI, Johnathan Schwartz, ALLISON STEELE, 'The Night Bird, the Neer Brothers, and all the rest! I had always wondered what happened to all of those wonderful THIRTY - YEARS worth of interviews (John Lennon, Elton John, Robert Plant, Renaissance, everybody!!), and all of the fabulous Live Concerts! Now, at least we can hear them all once again! Scott and Allison are 'Grovin on a Cloud', reliving & listening to all of this, with us once again! THANKS, for bringing it back! Irv, in CT!

    I live in the Washington, DC area and we have an INFINITY/CBS station that plays AAA music, but it is nowhere near as interesting as this stream. I think Norm Winer is VP of AAA programming at CBS and is the creator of this stream. He also was formerly the program director of WXRT in Chicago. I wish he would take a serious listen to The Globe 94.7 in Washington and help these guys get their a

    I really hope INFINITY/CBS Radio pays attention to this...this is amazing recreation of the most recognized rock station in radio history WNEW. NY radio hasn't been the same since this station was murdered!! Whoever is behind this programming you are a throwback to understanding what music is all about!!!
