    FLAC Online Stores

I'd consider lossy compression to be a rip-off, and DRM an insult. If I want to buy me some FLAC, where should I go? Is there anywhere a list of online stores selling FLAC recordings?

If there isn't, may I kick one off?

http://www.magnatune.com Surely a waypost for all to follow. Full length previews. Simple but usable website. Good choice of formats. Large catalogue; lots of classical and electronica.

http://www.resonancestore.com Outlet for a number of independent bands. Full length previews. Downloading is slightly awkward - each track must be individually downloaded.

http://www.zunior.com Canadian store. Seem to have a large catalogue, but not everything available in FLAC. Short previews. Only just found them, not bought anything yet...

If you like electronic music, http://www.bleep.com offers a small portion of their offerings in flac format.

  • I've been looking for a list of flac stores, it's difficult to find.

Boomkat.com offers a lot of flac releases.

I'm looking for a store that sells flac releases of almost anything. An emusic or itunes of flac downloads. Mp3's are no longer satisfying my ears.

Here's another online music store that offers formats in basically almost any format you could wish for:

They offer everything on there in FLAC, MP3, MPEG4-AAC, OGG, MPC, & WMA (ew...)

I've bought some songs off of there, and you can be rest assured they'll be in real lossless quality and not a transcode (unless the actual CD itself was lossy-mastered, like with artists such as Owl City); all purchases come with the same decent sized, good quality album art that you can receive from iTunes. :) BTW, what's nice is that all song prices are set at 99 cents a song, no matter WHICH format you choose (so the price won't go up double or triple by choosing FLAC :] ).

see, a lot of these places don't have the artists that i like.

i'll just stick to CDs for now.

i tried www.musicishere.com and was surprised. they also give you wav files. a strange design and a strange collection of artists but they are very good. i googled for Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance. i think they need some promotion.

Hey my favorite one is Boomkat. I tried out all the above.

They get some really cool .flac releases in the independent and electronic/dance areas, and the user interface is great.

  • Something new ...

I found some new shops, which have a quite good selection:

Offers much music as WAV which can be encoded to FLAC (server side)
Prices are ok but sometimes equal to the physical release (if available)

Offers music of some releases as FLAC for a really good price - there are international artists, too

I hope there will be paypal available on boomkat soon ;)

Boomkat seems pretty good for FLAC.

The thing is though, it just doesn't make any sense to pay £8.99 for a FLAC album when you can buy the CD for £8.93 from Amazon. Prices need to come down for downloads or CDs should probably be more expensive than they are. It just doesn't make sense to a consumer for a digitally distributed album to cost more than something that is manufactured onto a CD including material costs and distribution costs to stores.

http://www.gubemusic.com/ has a great catalogue of jazz, modern jazz and other kind of alternative genres. Flac and 96/24

  • Just tried www.musicishere.com

    Hello everyone,

I also gave www.musicishere.com a try and I'm very satisfied. As someone above stated, the design is a little bit weird and old fashioned (reminds me of the origins of internet :) ) but it works pretty good and I've got my songs.
