Description :
Seems like there's a group for many cut-ups and side-orders, but here's a group for people that just love everything Genesis.

The Gabriel Era...? Collins Era...? Welcome to the All-Eras Genesis group - where we know that it's all the Banks Era anyway!

The new Ant Phillips album PP&P XI: City of Dreams is good stuff for fans of his ambient electronic work!

ach, you can get away with hating Calling All Station I suppose.... heheh. I personally like it but it's not really up to par. Whodunnit? I absolutely love!! I was chuffed to find out it was a Tony creation too, Chapter & Verse is a really amazing gift for the fans.

I'm not completely sure if I should have joined this, since I HATE Calling All Stations. But I love everything else.

I have always liked "Whodunnit?", and it was great to learn that it was one of Tony's creations. :)

I like them too! It's all in the ear of the listener. And here's another bombshell certain to ruffle a few feathers in places other than here: "I had a Prophet Five synthesizer which I really used to abuse. If you played certain notes and then changed the tones while you held the notes down the keyboard would produce some very strange sounds which I loved. I think I was the only one who did like these sounds, and the others probably thought, 'Oh god, Tony, any way to shut him up, let's record it'. We put the track down; Phil added some filthy drums, Mike the bass, and Phil went off to write a silly lyric for it. I've always loved this track and virtually everyone else, it seems to me, hates it. There's something about it that appeals to me, the fact that it managed to provoke such strong emotion in people. It was unlike anything I had ever done or ever did, a hypnotic piece, a brave track to include." -Tony Banks, on "Whodunnit?", Genesis: Chapter & Verse pp.234-235

you're right, DukesravelsT =/ but even the early singles 'crap' as Mike says, were in fact great!

"People always said we started going for singles in the 1980s. We'd made singles for years. It was just they were crap." -Mike Rutherford, Genesis: Chapter & Verse pp.145. There goes the 'Phil took over Genesis and turned it into his own commercial sellout machine' theory blown out of the water. Bet a bunch of folks are still in denial about it. ;)

Finally started reading Genesis: Chapter & Verse. I'm up to the time between FGTR and Trespass. Then I listened to FGTR again this evening, and it was a whole new album knowing everything about how it came to be. This book is fantastic! I thought I already knew a lot about the band's history, and now I am learning even more. Like how Ant was furious when he heard the string arrangements Jonathan King had put on to FGTR. Fascinating learning these new bits of history I didn't know before.

you're right mate, Tony's new orchestral work is fantastic, I wasn't expecting to be so moved by it! I didn't know Hackett and Squire were working on something, sweet :)

An exciting couple of months coming up! New orchestral work from Tony Banks, new Ant Phillips orchestral collaboration, and Steve Hackett & Chris Squire's collaboration. Add to that the new Peter Gabriel "Live Blood" recording... a good time to be a Genesis fan!

Most people bashing Genesis post-Gabriel era, but don't listen awesome albums like A Trick of The Tail, grandiloquent and bombastic solos of Steve Hackett yet, IMO, Genesis diminished their quality when Steve Hackett left, though I DO like Collinesis like a rock/pop band :P

I love all of Genesis' work. I write this while listening to The Lamb which has definately grown on me. But later I'll probably be listening to Trick of the Tail and then all of a sudden I'll have the Mama album and Invisible Touch playing. I enjoy listening to all of them as they are fantastic albums! Yes they are certainly different but they quite simply evolved over time. I can't stand it when some fans quite simply disregard certain albums (Oh it's pop) or say things like they should have not called themselves Genesis after Peter left etc! I've enjoyed all the albums they have released, including Calling all Stations. I love the name and description of this group!

glad to see an "all eras" group, because fans too often divide it into "good" and "bad" eras.. whether they like peter or phil better. the peter era only fans are the worst. it's ALL *AMAZING* folks!!! best best to ever grace the history of rock by far. the songwriting talent these guys had was truly something special, and it will never be topped imo. never. tony banks is my hero!

3 years on and we have hit 90 members! heheh. I saw on the cover of Prog magazine yesterday (I didn't buy it, £8!!!) a quote from Peter Gabriel saying something like, if it's the right project, then yeah i'll do it. still holding on hope :)
