Trying what exactly? This thread is about the upload "stalling" and retrying three times, which has been fixed for a month.

If you are having general upload issues I refer you to this thread:
    http://www.last.fm/forum/6666/_/587812

And also these two posts on that thread:

  • @Jonty - i'm getting error code 1013 when my upload completes. it says the files haven't been uploaded and to try again later. this has been going on for months now.

i contacted last.fm support and mentioned this exact issue & they pointed me to this thread.

i'll peep the links you posted - thanks.

  • yeah, i don't think those links are related to my issue. i thought this thread was since last.fm support pointed me here:(

  • Seems like Jonty & "LastFM Support" need to have a punch-up.

  • Another victim writes - uploads stalled (timing out at receiving end?)

I have posted to LastFM about this, their ticket 201002810000326/335, however if any of them are reading and are after more information, this is what it looks like:

The uploads will normally start, however they proceed very slowly. There appears to be a network or bandwidth problem somewhere, or possibly an issue on the receiving server itself. Since this is apparently being commonly experienced this points to the LastFM end, possibly their servers or connections onto them. (At the risk of asking the blindingly obvious, have LastFM looked at the server logs and what do they show?)

The PC sending the files can be seen sending data fairly steadily, and looking at the connection status confirms that the packets are leaving the sending machine. However the rate at which they are detected at the receiving end seems to be erratic.

LastFM seem to have their servers set to expect to see data arriving in a stream. If they think the stream has stopped, they will wait a short time. After that, they will decide the upload has "stalled" and either restart it or give up altogether. During periods when no data is being detected arriving at the LastFM end, it can still be seen leaving the sending machine, sometimes quite quickly.

After LastFM has given up, packets can normally still be seen leaving the sending machine. Once, logging out and back in again showed that the file had in fact arrived. This does suggest that status reports being given to users are not always accurate.

Internet explorer may be better at sending the files than FireFox, though both have failed.

Sending the files one at a time appears to be better, then clicking continue and clicking Add track, although even then there is a very high failure rate.

Because the files are stalling during receipt, it follows that there is a size aspect to this. If you go for the minimum standard i.e. smallest file of 128k/44.1k, it appears to get more difficult to get the files on after about four minutes long, though less than three minutes has failed repeatedly and nearly ten minutes did strangely turn up later apparently uploaded intact after having failed. At this moment I am not clear on whether it is complete or only a portion of a failed upload.

From the postings it appears that this is not geography, browser, machine or operating system dependant. Sorry but it does appear to be at the LastFM end.

I have to say that artists confronted with this are highly likely to go elsewhere if there are any alternatives. Broadjam for instance has never had this problem as far as I've ever seen and there may be others (suggestions?). Given that this issue has been going on for months and possibly years that does I'm afraid suggest that noises about it being taken seriously are largely public relations.

Speaking personally, having spent months creating an album, frankly I do not expect to have to spend all day failing to get it uploaded. I'm afraid artists will need to put the word out to avoid LastFM as the upload problems seem to be almost insurmountable.

I might add that I can upload files to the servers running my own website with absolutely no problems at all.

  • problem after upload

    hi all & staff!

    i uploaded a 23MB mp3(320 kpbs)track, however the download turns out that it's
9MB(128 kpbs). as a result this change of bitrate is creating defects in the dynamics in the track. is there some protocol i'm missing out on; music manager says: Your files must be MP3s encoded at 128kbps and above, at 44.1kHz, nothings wrong with what i did.

help would be much appreciated, best, :)

All uploads are transcoded down to 128k after upload for radio streaming. Right now we only offer the transcoded versions for download, but we plan to allow you to make the original downloadable too at some point in the future.

  • problem after upload

    hi jonty,

thx for the quick response & info!...like you say to have an increased bitrate
option for the future is a great plan and actually a must need. certain recordings
dont give a correct response after bieng transcoded to 128k.

all the best & cheers, :)

  • transcoding/upload error

    hi again jonty,

converted my track to 128k and uploaded & after tested the DL, same problem,
my original file is 9.5MB but the downloaded file comes short as 9.49MB and
there is again defects in the sound which is probably caused by the loss of MB's. unfortunately had to cancel my release hope this problem can be solved.

thx for your concerns, best, :)

  • Uploads are failing

I uploaded 12 files last night and got a "incomplete upload" message. Upon my return the following day I found that none of the tracks made it. I noticed that this is an ongoing problem with other users. Will this issue ever get fixed? Do I need to seek out another music server? Please advise. aloha.

    Frustrating!

It was bad enough that I lost my entire upload after having to wait for authorisation for rights to a popular artist. But then when I uploaded the album all over again, I rearranged the tracklisting and uploaded artwork, clicked to continue and it disappeared into the ether again!

The system is a bit volatile...

    Just adding

Just for the record I have the same upload problem

"Tracks are currently being added to this album..."

  • My Music Manager has also stuck and I can't edit at all one of my albums. Is there some way to fix this?

Somewhen I used the lyrics of others in order to express myself... Nowadays... I just create my own...
  • All will be okay soon :)

If you are having Music Manager related issues...

  • i've uploaded the song "absinto" to this album
    http://www.last.fm/music/A+Arca+de+Noel/Noah's+EP
but it doesnt show up on the list, and when i try to manage the album this message appears:
"Tracks are currently being added to this album
You cannot edit it while this is in progress, it should complete shortly"
how can i fix it? (obviously the track was not added to the album and probably will not)
