Why do people cheat on Last.FM plays ?

  • Why do people cheat on Last.FM plays ?

I was looking at peoples' profiles today and it said on their about me like

    AVERAGE PLAYS A MONTH - 10,000

TBH it's sad that people will have music playing when they're not around just to get plays.

    Anyone else agree?

  • It is rather silly, I get around 300 a day, mainly due to the fact I'm on the computer 18 hours a day, now that I'm back at school (just started today), I bet my plays will be dropping substantially. :x

Pretty much my boat. I am listening whenever I am home.

  • maybe they get some sort of satisfaction from it because they can't accomplish anything else in their lives, IDK MAN

    my count is pretty low

  • Yeah, it's naff, any higher than about 70 plays per day I don't believe is genuine.

My last.fm scrobbler occasionally double-scrobbles my iPod so that leads to a weird play count, that and when I'm on school holidays (got back to school now though) my sleeping hours go a bit weird and I always listen to music when I get the chance so that would explain my high play count at the moment. It'll probably plummet soon...

Someone should make a Twilight mod for Castlevania! Wouldn't it be awesome to kill Edward Cullen instead of Dracula?

I have no idea why people would cheat their scrobbles. I like to see what I've actually been listening to. Sometimes my charts even surprise me, which is a good thing.

My average is about 30 scrobbles per day. Sometimes I listen to music non-stop. Sometimes I hardly listen to anything at all.

Because some people care more about numbers than they do about music.

    Which is really, really sad.

  • that's the worst, ugh

  • Well, my numbers'll be high this week, as am off work for a week, so have just got i-tunes on, probs all day, whilst I play on the comp, read, draw etc etc, nice to have on in the background :)

Yeah, I think you'll be alright - it's the people who've been members a week and have 20k plays that are suspect, I think...

    :)

Do you ever leave your house for other reasons than school?

I've been a member since 2004 and I've listen to about 22000 tracks since then. So my average is about 10 plays every day. I only listen to music when I can really listen to it. I can't stand background music.

Whereas I listen to it ALL day, EVERY day. There may be a few moments where the 'phones are off when I'm at work, but not long.

And then home, to play CDs.

Everyone's different, eh? It is perfectly possible to listen to loads of music and not be cheating. You'll rarely find the TV on in my house, for example.

Be aware that upon registering you can import your listening data from itunes. Well its not the time:plays ratio you should be suspicious about, it's more or so the plays a day, if it exceeds 500 then I would say its a good chance that they're cheating.

10,000 plays a month isn't really much, I listen to an average of 330 songs a day without ever cheating.
    330 x 31 = 10230
I think 15500 is the safest plays a month to start calling someone a cheat, cause that would be about 500 plays a day.

Sorry buddy, I'm gonna have to disagree with you there, since apparently I average 93 tracks a day and I always keep my charts very accurate.

But yeah, people who cheat with their charts are annoying. Surely one of the reasons of having a Last.fm account is to see how much you've been listening to certain artists/songs and stuff like that. What's the point if all the plays are fake?

    Wait, what?
You don't believe people can listen to music for more than 2-3 hours a day?
I only need about 3-4 hours sleep a day, and when I'm not asleep I'll be on the computer listening to music. :\
