Create and post your personal tag cloud

  • Create and post your personal tag cloud

This script allows you to generate your user tag cloud (which compiles all tags of your favourite artists). Such user tag clouds provide a clear description of musical preferences on Last.fm, and would be a great feature to have on user profile pages. The script generates BBCode, so you can copy/paste the cloud into forum and journal posts, your profile details, or in your signature.

Here's the tag cloud that goes with my profile:

alternative ambient dance electronic electronica rock techno trance

I'm looking forward to see your tag clouds!

I love the idea, it's great. You might concider making the fonts a bit larger tho.

  • I disagree with the font needing to be larger... If you did that and made tag clouds of people who listen to only a few styles, you'd end up with very large fonts...

Well, but I do not care only about people who listen to few music styles. I listen to various genres and would like to read a bit more than just 'rock' from my cloud :P It would be nice to see what's hiding there without enlarging fonts in my browser.

Hehe, ok, true... Maybe my default text size is bigger on this PC than yours...

Last.fm's CSS styling doesn't allow to use fonts larger than 20-something or it looks fugly. Some tag clouds already look like a mess. I wish I could remove the underlines from the links, but BBCode doesn't allow me to tweak the CSS styling. The HTML version that the scripts generates is supposed to be cleaner (at least, it is in Safari and Firefox) and shows more tags.

In reply to "it would be nice to see what's hiding there" - the script now saves your complete tag vector to a tab-separated text file, which you can view from a link at the bottom of the page (e.g., my personal tag vector). The tag vector contains all tags and their relative popularity, scaled such that the vector has length 1. The complete tag vector will give you a more in-depth look of your profile.

Awesome. Wish it had the code for the bigger version to post in a journal. Still very cool though. :)
