Speed up your browsing - FireFox Users read

  • Speed up your browsing - FireFox Users read

Popping in for a quick hello, and a tidbit that might prove beneficial to most FireFox users:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

    network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

    2. Alter the entries as follows:

    Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

    Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

    3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

This increased the speed to almost instant, try it out.

  • Welcome back Morgan and thanks so much. I've recently done the one that starts it up faster but this is great *L* I was actually laughing at how fast my favourite browsing bitch was jumping for me *smooch*.

.edit. Is he quoting Proteus or somethin'? If so..thanks to Proteus for originating and thanks to Morgan for re-energizing the information.

  • I've heard that some servers interpret simultaneous requests above a certain number (eg 30+) as a DOS attack so block your ip. anyone know whether yay/nay?

Never heard that anywhere before, but I read on another page that FireFox has a built-in limitation of 10 requests. So you don't have to worry about that.
    There, actually.

Might have to reboot your system to see the benefits?

I guess Prot had previously posted it in another thread. Problem is not everyone reads page 11 of a thread when they weren't there from the beginning, so I suppose a number didn't know of this. I hadn't realized Prot posted it, and after seeing it on another forum, I wanted to share it.

    Sorry! :D

I have firefox at the top of my startmenu as the internet program. Does anyone know how to add the option to that?
