SlimScrobbler on Mac OSX

  • SlimScrobbler on Mac OSX

Apologies for cross-posting on different forums but I've not been able to get Slimscrobbler working with Slimserver on my Mac (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21151&page=3) and wondered if there was any advice on this.

    - I'm using MAC OSX 10.4.5 with Slimserver 6.2.1

    - I downloaded SlimScrobbler v0.34 then copied Scrobbler.pm and the directory SlimScrobbleSupport to ~/Library/SlimDevices/Plugins

    - stopped and started Slimserver

    - On the Slimserver web browser interface, went to Home / Server Settings / Plugins but couldn't see anything associated with Audioscrobbler as described in the ScrobblerReadMe file so it doesn't look as if the plug in has loaded properly.

I did try to see what debug info is produced when enabling d_plugins but this option doesn't seem to be preserved when stopping and starting Slimserver.

  • Same here (nt)

    same here, identical situation.

  • Did you try the suggestion to install the plugin in
    /Library/PreferencePanes/SlimServer.prefPane/Contents/server/Plugins
    (NOT ~/Library)

Debug options aren't saved, so I'm not sure how you get the startup info on a Mac.
Try running slimserver.pl from your command line interface? (Normal SlimServer will need to be stopped when you do this)

  • Yes, I tried your suggestion about an alternate installation in
    /Library/PreferencePanes/SlimServer.prefPane/Contents/server/Plugins
stopped and restarted slimserver to no avail.

Not sure how to run the slimserver.pl on the console.

I really want this to work. Squeezebox and Last.fm are a divine match.

    any more suggestions?

    Thanks for your help,
    Michael

  • I tried slimscrobbler on a PC today, and it showed up in the slimserver settings. So, the issue we are experiencing which keeps the plugin from loading may be confined to the OSX version.

Under OSX the plugin does not install in my system.

When you have a chance, I wonder if you hardworking (for free) slimscrobbler developers would be willing to fix what it is that keeps us OSX users from sharing the joy of full functionality between last.fm and Slimserver.

I appreciate all your hard work in creating this evolutionary link between two of the greatest gifts to music lovers to come around since recorded music itself - Last.fm and Squeezebox.

I love the thrill of new music discovery. Music makes such a difference in my life.

    for the music,
    Michael

I have been trying to get this to work for a while now too, but today I managed to get it to work from a suggestion in this post. I am running the same version OSX 10.4.5.

Navigate to /Library/PreferencePanes, right click on SlimServer.prefPane and select Show Package Contents. Navigate to Contents/server/Plugins in the new window that opened. That is where you want to put Scrobbler.pm and SlimScrobbleSupport directory [as stated in a previous post above]

I originally did not have SlimServer.prefPane in /Library/PreferencePanes. I got one by opening up my system preferences, right-clicking on the SlimServer icon and selecting Remove 'SlimServer" Preference Pane. Then I downloaded the latest .dmg of the slimserver installer, mounted it, and started the SlimServer Installer app. When the window pops up asking about system preferences I selected the All Users option, and continued as usual with installation. After everything was complete the SlimServer.prefPane file existed in /Library/PreferencePanes and I was able to continue on with the procedure above.

Once I put the Scrobbler.pm and SlimScrobbleSupport directory into the contents of the prefpane, i fired up my system preferences and clicked the SlimServer icon. The server was not running because I had just reinstalled it, so i started it up! navigate to the web interface and into the Server Settings and then Plugins section. The plugin is called Audioscrobbler Submitter. if you don't see it in the list of plugins select Load Plugins On-The-Fly, press the Change button right underneath the list of plugins and see if it pops up. If it does it will probably be checkmarked [it was for me] and there will be a new section on that same page titled Last.FM / Audioscrobbler which is where you enter your last.fm username and whatnot.

That is the process I went through to get it working on my machine. YMMV/HTH

  • yay! that sounds promising, if complicated...

I don't believe any of the SlimScrobbler developers have access to a Mac or we would have sorted this out by now!

The wierd thing is why this is a problem only for this plugin (and ones derived from the same code) and only on OS X. I have no idea why this is!

  • Didn't work for me in OSX 10.3.9

I followed your distructions to a "T" and now find the Audioscrobbler in the slimserver menus. Part way there.

I entered my user name and password and hit change (turned the slimserver off and on again) updated the firmware. Now I find the 'audioscrobbler on' and 'audioscrobbler off' and "submit now" and soforth in the SB3 menus.

    Everything looks good.

Next issue: Slimscrobbler is not submitting to Last.fm (I wanted to make sure this failure was not a last.fm condition, I submitted with itunes... and my last.fm playlist updated).

Also: "last.fm" does not appear in the internet radio menu on the SB, nor is there a place to enter a last.fm radio station address on the Slimserver/Server Settings/Internet Radio page.

I'm using the slimserver beta and latest slimscrobbler.

    Any ideas?

hmm that is strange. once i got the plugin installed submissions worked fine for me.. not sure if I can help other than to state the obvious: make sure the slimscrobbler plugin is set to submit automatically in the plugin settings ;)

i also can't help you with the internet radio q's cause i never use it on my SB -- i'm pretty sure the only purpose the slimscrobbler plugin serves is to submit track history [if/when it feels like it] and i don't know of any way to listen to last.fm through the SB. sorry

  • For the SlimScrobbler submissions you need to check the SlimServer log file to see what the problem is. I think d_plugins debugging option needs to be enabled to see the output from SlimScrobbler.

For LastFM, have you already installed the LastFM plugin?
    http://www.jamescraig.co.uk/SlimServer/lastfm.html
(it is a different plugin from SlimScrobbler)

    James

  • Yes, there is a Santi Claws, Virginia

Turns out that it's all about getting the latest and greatest beta version of the slimscrobbler (for your platform, that is).

Thanks to Malcolm for pouring over my plugin error-logs to devine the obstacle between my Squeezebox 3 and its seamless integration with last.fm

Now I have scrobbling and handheld remote control over skipped/loved/banned tracks, as well as being able to listen to new music on last.fm radio stations.

And now, as a last.fm subscriber, I have access to my own loved tracks radio, as well as similar artist radiostations, stations that update fo feature similar artists to just played tracks. Does it get any better than this? Hard to imagine.

Is there more last.fm/slimscrobbler functionality I missed?

Malcolm (also know as "mcphoto" around here), please post the working solution to the Mac OS issue so the others can share the love (I notice that this has been a well read thread).

The "music industry" is dead, long live last.fm and slimdevices!
