Why no FLAC support?

  • Why no FLAC support?

I don't get it.. FLAC has tags that work just like id3 tags, so why doesn't the audioscrobbler plugin support FLAC files? I'm converting all my cd's to FLAC format, and it'll be sad to lose audioscrobbler.

I haven't tried FLAC files, and I don't actually know whether the plugin will support them or not... I'll try it out this evening. The plugin actually gets track and artist information from SlimServer, not direct from the file - if SlimServer recognises the tag, it should tell the plugin. So there's no reason that I know of why this shouldn't work.

I've just just tried listening to a FLAC, and it's submitted no trouble at all. (Using SlimScrobbler 0.34 and SlimServer 6.2.1).

What problem were you seeing? If it was just that tracks weren't appearing on your recently played list, then perhaps Last.FM was down or slow.

If you still can't see this working, then feel free to send me a debug trace and perhaps a FLAC to test against. My email address and info on getting a trace are in the SlimScrobbler readme.

well, as it turns out, I was having some other slimserver issues, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled, and then reinstalled slimscrobbler (somebody should really tell whoever runs that site about their faulty download link - it took me a while to realize I needed to delete part of the text in their link). anyway, now it appears to submit for flacs after all! I'm glad, because I'm converting all my discs to flac.

    thanks

    Hi Chris,

Which site? Which link? I run the SlimScrobbler page, if there's something wrong there I ought to be able to fix it. If you've got a broken link within the last.fm site then please post to the Web Site Support forum.

well, this is the week of problems that disappear inexplicably. I went back to the slimscrobbler.sourceforge.net page, and clicked on the "Download SlimScrobbler v0.34" text, and now it works. last time, it would give me an error message about not finding the file, and I had to copy the link & delete the ?download text. so nevermind - all's well.

Sometimes that's the best type of problem :) Sounds like something odd was going on with sourceforge. Thanks for the update.

  • FLAC doesn't scrobble with WMP because it's listed as not having a song length and the Last.fm scrobbler just says it's too short to scrobble
