Why won't my iPod scrobble?

  • Why won't my iPod scrobble?

Okay... so, I really don't know what to do anymore. I know I'm not the only one whose iPod won't scrobble. I have an iPod Classic, I use iTunes version 10.4.0.80, Last.fm scrobbler version 1.5.4.27091, and iTunes plugin version 3.0.4.0. I've had my iPod since Christmas and 99% of the time, it works just fine. Now, for the past few days it hasn't been scrobbling at all. When I listen to music on my iTunes, it scrobbles fine. The problem is, I use my iPod 90% of the time I listen to music. I know I'm not doing anything wrong - I'm doing the same thing that I've always done to scrobble. Usually, I plug my iPod in, let it sit there for 5-10 minutes and it scrobbles. Lately, I can let it sit there for almost 30 minutes and it does nothing. Then, I try to to do it this way...

...and it still won't work, even though that method has worked for me in the past. I've read through the iPod scrobbling FAQ and there's nothing on there that has helped me at all. By the looks of the threads on this forum, I doubt anyone can really help me since everyone else seems to be having the same sort of problem. I just don't want to keep losing hundreds of scrobbles every week. I know I'm not a subscriber, so I'm sure Last.fm could care less about someone that isn't paying. Still, I've been a member of this site since 2005 and it's only now that I'm starting to have problems. My profile page has been messed for the past week aswell...

...The thing is, it's only when I view it from my computer. Does anyone know what my problem is?

  • Isn't there some thing you can download that prevents that this message from coming up? I think I may have downloaded it before when I was having problems with my iPod and I think it may have helped. Anyone?

  • Anyone?

I have the exact same problem. If you find the answer to fix this please let me know :(

  • Will do

The scrobbler worked great for me until two days ago, when I started to use a Mac.
Now it won't scrobble at all. I've tried pretty much everything; re-installing and downloading a bunch of stuff people on this forum recommanded me to try to see if it worked, but nothing has worked so far.
The scrobbler doesn't find any tracks I've been listening to, it seems as if they've just disappeared, although they are being registered in iTunes.
No tracks show up in the scrobbler. What should I do?

  • Everything was working fine up until 2 days ago.
For example I've could play an entire album via ITunes, it shows that the tracks are being scrobbled, however the play counter by that artist remains unchanged, even though my ITunes clearly shows that I've played certain songs that day.

The same when using my iphone, I'll use that throughout the day, when I go to sync, the songs that I've played will be amended on my Itunes but not on my last.fm page.

    It's very annoying!

Yes, I forgot to mention that. I'm getting all of my play counts on iTunes, it's just the scrobbles on Last.fm which I'm missing out on (and which I would rather be getting).

  • my iPod didn't scrobbled since i updated the LastFM scrobbler, but when i play the songs with my iPod's plug in the iTunes and play it, it'll scrobbled, weird...

  • Possible Workaround?

I've only done this a couple of times, but it's worked each one of them, so I may have found a work around to this problem.

If I plug in my ipod cord (NOT the ipod) BEFORE I open itunes, then allow itunes to load before connecting my ipod, my list of scrobbles for approving does come up for me to confirm, instead of becoming lost.

Give it a shot and perhaps we can see if it works generally?

  • Thanks for the tip Chromefox. Will do! :)

  • i went on a cross country drive for 38 hours and listened to my ipod the whole way. when i plugged it up, nothing scrobbles. however, when i listened to an album earlier today on my ipod, that picked up. but the thousand others i guess are lost forever

    uhh

    Having the same problem. :(

  • Same thing here. This started a day or two ago. I'm using a mac and 160gb ipod classic, all my software is up to date. Until very recently, my ipod scrobbled just fine. Now it will scrobble if I play songs while connected to my computer but anything I listen to when it's not connected won't scrobble when I plug it in. I thought it might have something to do with the fact that my ipod flipped out and deleted all my music for no reason the other day but apparently that has nothing to do with it if lots of other people are having the same issue. Has anyone found a solution yet? Please post here if/when you do!

  • The exact same problem. Haven't been able to scrobble from my Ipod for a few weeks now. I've restored my ipod, uninstalled and reinstalled the last.fm client. I'm at a bit of a loss now. Wish last.fm would offer an actual fix rather than have us all hypothesize over what may or may not work.

  • I was having the same problem until I switched to syncing and scrobbling the music on my iPod manually.

This is what worked for me.

On iTunes, go to Edit > Preferences > Devices and tick the "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically box".

Whenever you plug your iPod into your computer, go into Help > Diagnostics > iPod Scrobbling, make sure that it's set to "I manually manage my iPod", and click then button to scrobble.

When you have scrobbled your plays, only then do you sync your iPod.

  • won't scrobble off itunes or ipod/ have tried everything

Have the latest iTunes and LastFm.

It's saying there isn't a server to connect to, but I've checked the setting & it seems fine.

I tried to uninstall, but it won't let me. I updated, and downloaded that a few times, but it doesn't seem to change anything. I added the latest plug-ins, nothing.

I started a new account, nothing.

It will scrobble off the LastFm radio, but not the iPod or iTunes. it keeping all of my songs in a cache, so it's in there- but it's not showing up on the profile page.

I ran a diagnostic test on iTunes & here is more than you probably need to know:

  • Having the same issue, using Lion on Mac.

  • I am having the same issue! I have been for well over a week or more now and it is pissing me off.

I know Mac users have been dealing with it http://www.last.fm/forum/34905/_/750760 but now I have the issue on Windows and there isn't an update. I have gone on 2 trips and lost the scrobbles forever. I have the data in iTunes, but now I have no way of getting that info over to Last.fm.

My iPod Touch scrobbles just fine, my plays on my computer are fine, on my iPod classic... NOPE!

    edit:
    Windows 7 OS
    iTunes 10.4.0.80
    Last.fm scrobbler 1.5.4.27091 with
    iTunes plugin version 3.0.4.0

  • My issue is that whenever I connect my iPod, the Last.fm app comes up with scrobbles found in my iTunes instead... which... is quite a lot of tracks.
