AudioScrobbler Plugin Crashes iTunes on a Macintosh

    Yes that will definitely be the case - the plugin in the 1.5.4.26863 beta version did not detect iPads. However if you sync an iPod/iPhone after you have synced your iPad then your iPad plays will have already been accrued.

    If anyone still has the iTunes crashing problem can you please start Terminal.app (found in /Applications/Utilities) and run the following command:

    md5 ~/Library/iTunes/iTunes\ Plug-ins/AudioScrobbler.bundle/Contents/MacOS/AudioScrobbler

    If you could paste the result in this thread.

    (I have a suspicion that perhaps the latest Last.fm update has installed but it has been unable to copy the updated plugin into the iTunes plugins folder..)

    iTunes is crashing for me since I have tried to once again scrobble tracks from my iPod/iPhone. This feature has never worked for me and I have always had it disabled, but since I am listening to more music on my iPhone these days and I noticed an update to the Last.Fm client, I thought I would try. Still the same result, so maybe it is as jonocole says and the helper isn't being copied.

    If so, how can I force it to copy. I think that would be a helpful bit of knowledge.

    Note: I have a very large library; 450gigs. I am running the latest Mac OSX and the latest iTunes. I updated the last.fm client recently to whatever the latest is. Also, I use Bowtie to scrobble the tracks that I listen to on my desktop through last.fm and was only trying to get Last.Fm to scrobble my iPhone tracks. If Last.FM scrobbler/app was working well, I would go back to just using that or using it in addition to Bowtie, but for now, I am still without scrobbling my iPhone tracks.

    hmmm... what am i doing here?

    I tried totally uninstalling the last.fm client (using appcleaner) and then installed the beta version. It prompted me to install the latest beta version. I did so.

    iTunes still crashes. I give up.... again.

    hmmm... what am i doing here?

  • I also tried the beta version after completely removing all traces of an old install, iTunes still crashes as soon as I plug in my iPhone :(

    I deleted the audioscrobbler plugin manually through terminal then reinstalled the entire lastfm client, now I get the same as other people:

  • Please fix this. I cannot scrobble any tracks. iTunes crashes both 1.5.4.26863 and 1.5.4.26864.

    Yes, iTunes used to crash every time I synced my iPad (have ipod-scrobble on). Only when turning ipod scobble off I was able to sync my ipad. I replaced the last.fm client with the old beta and now I can finally use iTunes again without any worries. Whatever you changed when you started to support the iPad is probably the reason for iTunes to crash on my iMac (running 10.6.4 by the way).

  • I don't even care if it scrobbles the iPad, I just don't want iTunes to crash. Is there any way to disable scrobbling just for the iPad, but not the iPhone?

    Alternatives

    I use Bowtie and I like it. It scrobbles to Last.FM. It doesn't do any of the peripheral devices, like iPhone, iPod, etc.

    Maybe with Ping just being announced, Last.FM will be replaced eventually. I was excited about the Last.FM service early on, but have disappointed by it for years. That's sad.

    hmmm... what am i doing here?

    @joesepi I think your comments are completely out of place. While the bug is annoying and it apparently takes a lot of time to fix it, I would concede that this one feature for a small subset of users (Mac users owning an iPad and/or an iPhone 4) is not their main concern. I guess they don't have that much manpower to spare and from this thread it seems that Jono is doing all of it on his own.

    And it's kinda hypocritical to say you're disappointed with a service, a free service no less, for years that you didn't even use 4.5 years ago...

    So stop the whining and let them fix it. The bug is apparently not of the trivial kind. The fact that it works with all other iOS devices should tell you that.

    iTunes 10 (after using and syncing for about 48 hours) now crashes when syncing iPhone and iPad, does it on the previous version that I was using so that iPad wouldn't crash it, and the latest version.

  • Still crashes iTunes!!!

    I have tried again and again for now more than one month. Last.FM scrobbler still crashes iTunes on my Mac. I used the newest versions available (including the last update of iTunes some days ago). Unbelievable how this bug is not getting fixed for such a long time. Without the iTunes scrobbling Last.FM is not worth the subscription for me. Therefore I have now cancelled my monthly subscription.
    Sorry guys from Last.FM, but this is not great.

    iTunes 10.0 (67) crashes when I plug in my iPod Touch.
    AudioScrobbler plugin error window.
    I uninstalled last.fm and will try again in a week or 2 to see if there's a new scrobbler plugin that works (will keep an eye on this thread too in case there's a fix..)

    At the moment i had to disable scrobbling for my iPhone and my iPad, as it always crashe iTunes when i synced my iPad.

    By the way, in my Preferences the (presumably) iPad is listed as "Unknown Device".

    If the subscription was just a little more expensive, I would have stopped it.

    Very frustrated with Scrobbling crashing iTunes. The problem is not going away.

    iPhone 4 is fine, but my iPad crashes iTunes. Really not happy. About to totally trash Last.fm and turn to Ping instead. Very VERY glad I never subscribed.

    At least for me it seems to be something with iPhone backup, because it crashes at the end of the backup process. Also when I cancel the backup, the rest of the syncing goes on fine without a crash.
