Windows Media Player won't scrobble

  • Windows Media Player won't scrobble

    Hi there,

since a few days, I'm having a strange problem: The last.fm client doesn't notice that I'm playing music anymore (and of course it doesn't scrobble).
scrobbling is switched on, plugins are active, I've installed the latest version of the client, and also the latest media player version (11.0.6001.7004). (I already considered the faq) It still worked perfectly about two weeks ago, afaik I know I haven't made any changes to the system since then (windows vista SP1... but don't blame the problem immediately on vista ;) ). I have already tried installing the client anew. Anyway, it seems to work with winamp, but I don't want to use winamp (have never liked it).
Does anybody know what might bei the reason? Have there been any updates for vista or the media player that are crutial?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Radio does not play

My WMP scrobbles fine but the radio station page is lifeless and does not play My Recs,Loved Tracks or My Neighbourhood. The page reads as follows: Start listening with foobar2000 0.9 or Windows Media Player to update your Last.fm profile. This is called scrobbling. Check your profile to see your recently played tracks, top charts and music recommendations.
Have also seen small pop up that says: Couldn't load radio service "httpinput". The radio will not work.
Diagnostics page reads everything ok. How do I get my radio going again?

Probably a stupid question, but have you accidentally disabled scrobbling (look in the bottom right of the Last.fm client). Otherwise I'd say to make sure the directories with your files are set to scrobble (tools > options > scrobbling), but I suppose these are both unlikely solutions if you've re-installed the plug-in and client.

Something slightly odd about the WMP version number (11.0.6001.7004) though:
I'm running 11.0.6000.6349 (presumably older, as it's a lower number) and when I use the 'check for updates' option it says there are none available. I'm not sure what that would indicate though.]

as for BabyCheese: your question's not really related, you should start a new thread to ask for help rather than doing so in this one. My first thought is that it's possibly firewall related, fwiw, but I'm no expert.

Re: Windows Media Player won't scrobble

    @jennytrueblood
I had the same problem as stained_glass, my Windows Media Player wouldn't scrobble. And your suggestion to re-check the plugin-options worked just fine for me :-)

  • This is exactly what my problem was over the weekend and I'm a WMP user. I tried the whole procedure to get it to work and eventiually it hooked up briefly enough by clicking reconnect over and over to read some cached tracks. I ended up deinstalling. Now I can't reinstall! See the other thread on the setup wizard. This is clearly not affecting a high number of users but there is a problem out there.

  • I've had the same problem and just recently managed to get it working again with WMP12. Don't know if its still an issue but here's how I fixed it.

Right-click on the tab bar at the top in WMP and select TOOLS > PLUG-INS > LASTFM PLUG-IN

I've recently had the same problem described. Fix was the same as Kevdunne suggested: uncheck Last.FM from the plug-ins menu, quit WMP12, restart, and re-enable the plug-in. Go figure.

If it helps anyone, I'm running Windows 7 x64 and WMP 12.

  • Same here, I'm using Spotify and the last.fm option is activated. I can see it working properly because I can see on my profile which song I am currently listening and every time I skip the song, the currently played stuff on my last.fm page is displaying the infos of the right track.
But it will not add it to the history and increase my counter.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!

  • I HAVE THE EXACT SAME BLOODY PROBLEM. What I did was reinstalled the whole scrobbler and it works for a short period of time but, I don't want to keep 'reinstalling' but, whatever floats your boat.

I had the old audioscrobbler and it began randomly dropping tracks in the last two days and I would have to untick the plugin, re-enter my details, tick it, untick and tick it again to get it to work again and then whenever you stop listening to music for a minute or more it would drop everything again. I'd never ever had a problem with the original Audioscrobbler plugin before.

So I updated to the last.fm client plugin and that still drops tracks, to the point that it was so frustrating I reinstalled the original Audioscrobbler plugin.

Why is this happening? It's ridiculous.

  • In my WMP, when I go to plug-ins, it doesn't recognize that I've got a last.fm plug-in. Also, when I'm in the last.fm scrobble client, and I do tools>options>scrobble, it says my music has to be in the C or D drive?
    Need help :(

Check options->scrobbling in the last.fm scrobbler and check all the drives listed there.
It's possible to only scrobble music on selected drives. Strange setting, eh?
