I've moved this thread to the client software support forum as it's more fitting than the Website support forum. We don't officially offer support for the old standalone plugins, and ask that if problems persist beyond the scope of successful resolution that you switch to using the Last.fm client.
With regards to the "Force Cache" option, I've not used the standalone plugin in years so may be wrong here, but when you're enabling this you're actually opting in to having you scrobbles cached on your local hard drive for later. Turn this feature off and listen to a few tracks to see if it resolves the issue at hand.
Aaargh. Thanks, M1N05. That really did it. I thought I was going nuts with the audioscrobbler-Plugin always resetting the registry-flag for "Forced Cache". I looked in the wrong place: it really was the iPod-Plugin waiting for a connected iPod. I was so close to throwing this stuff out of the window - which might have amused the neighbours :)
