client not opening when I open itunes

The last.fm client doesn't seem to open automatically when I open itunes 7. It opens automatically with QMP, it doesn't seem to open automatically with WMP11 either, but I don't use that so I'm not too bothered about that. I've tried reinstalling the last.fm client but that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas?

In WMP you need to enable the plugin. Right click on either Now Playing or Library > More options > Plugin > Background > Check Last.FM Plugin.
Itunes will have a similar but different configuration.

that fixed it for WMP, but I can't find a similar option in itunes, all I could find was view>visualizer>last.fm audioscrobbler, but that doesn't open the last.fm application, I still have to open it manually. It also appears that this has no effect on if music is scrobbled. tracks are scrobbled if the last fm app is open, and aren't if it isn't, whether the last.fm scrobbler visualisation is selected or not makes no difference.
