    Arggh

Yep - Pain in the butt - My TZ is right and matches, my time is correct for where I live (New Zealand) but no scrobbling. Frustration level is huge. Notice most issues seem to be in Southern hemisphere??

I recently moved to the west coast and I've started having this problem. I've changed the time zone in my profile settings to mirror the change, but I get the following errors in my Foobar console when I try and scrobble:

Audioscrobbler: Handshake failed: The system time is far off. Please correct your system time.
    Audioscrobbler: Handshake failed.

  • There is not much else to check in these circumstances beside:
    - operative system time/date/year
    - operative system time zone
    - last.fm time zone in your account preferences
    - last resort if you are on windows, check the time in the bios

  • same in taiwan

I just moved from france to Taiwan, I change the time on my computer (Taiwan, GMT +8) and I changed in my profile (taiwan, GMT +8) and still get this f*** message about my icorrect timezone.
And I just synchronized the time today.

and I noticed, whatever I can save in my sttings, whenever i come back, the time zone is still on UTC, and not on GMT +8 like I just saved !

please check it as bug !

  • Have you tried this from a different browser o deleting cookies/cache from your browser? That seem a cookie issue more than a site bug.

this is driving me crazy! i've checked my time/date at least 50 times in the past hour trying to figure this out and everything is correct and it still won't scrobble
i even tried to get a new username and that didn't work
i uninstalled and reinstalled last.fm but that didn't work either
i don't know what to do

  • OK, I tried , Asia/taipei instead of GMT +8 ,and it stayed in my settings, and I can scrobble again now!

  • I have just got this error saying that LastFM cannot authorise any scrobbling .. et al..
but I know that my time and date on my PC are correct.. however I donot see in my profile settings where I enter the time there is no box for it whatsover.

Edit OK I found the time zone settings near the recent listened tracks which I set to Europe/London as I live in the London South area of Sutton.. my PC time is set to GMT lisbon London etc.. date as of today and time is set as of the time now..

I uninstalled the lastfm software rebooted my PC.. reinstalled lastfm software
set program control as usual in Zone Alarm to allow for processes and access
to lastfm software.. started it up and I still got the error message

Last FM cannot authorize any scrobbling.

It appears your computer disagrees with us about what time it is
    and so on..

If my PC is correct and I know that the time zone in my profile is correct
surely this is a bug on the site that needs to addressed.

    [EDIT]

I managed to get it sorted.. (most embarrassing I know) but for some reason
and god knows why.. my calendar on my PC had jumped a day.. lol typical.

Hahahah.... I was suffering from the exact same problem. I think I changed my time late at night and therefore never updated the date.

Thanks for the post.. I never would have checked to see if my date was correct.

This is also driving me up the wall. I can synchronise to using WinXP to the NIST servers fine, but still no scrobbling. I have previously had scrobbling running fine, but did a reinstall to collect my itunes listening history. I get something about differing strata when trying to synchronise with windows' own time server, could this be the problem?

I've had the very same problem for the last week or so (London, UK). Updated the date with the 'Internet Time' tab and that actually set it to 13th December 2008! Have now corrected it again aandddd...

HOORAY! It is indeed scrobbling again! :D

  • I've been having the same problem. I've tried changing the time zone, synced the computer clock by clicking the internet time button and clicking update. And i STILL can't scrobble.
    And help here?

  • Have you checked that the time zone in last.fm match the one specified in your operative system? There isn't really anything else to check on our side once you set the timezone from your user page.
Anything else is determined always by the operative system, never the software.

Okay, I had the same problem for 1 day, didn’t know what to do. So I went to sleep woke up the other morning and still had the problem. So I said to myself I got to fix it, I actually noticed that my time wasn’t current, all I did I changed from PM to AM. The time zone I have on last.fm is UTC and I disabled the automatically adjust clock for daylight saving.
Also I am 100% it doesn’t have to do anything with the time on the CMOS, as I seen on other posts people saying they changed their time in the BIOS.
P.S if it still doesn’t work I suggest playing with the date of your computer in the range of 2 days.
All of the above helped me and it working like a charm now.

  • I was scrobbling along fine until Oct. 9th. Now, nothing. Have tried all of support's suggestions to no avail. Please figure this out and get back to all of us. Thanks in advance.

    my,my,hey,hey....
  • Once again: the timestamp associated to scrobbles is picked from the operative system and cannot be altered anywhere else.
The only control we have over time settings is the one you can find in the user settings of your last.fm page.
At the moment the only known issue is about DS time changes for australia not being yet widely recognized by operative system syncing clocks.

I set the date to yesterday and all worked :) Now I set the date correct and it still works.

  • I tried all the things what u guys suggested!
But here Netherlands,.,.,, GMT -01:00 Still can't scrobble! It really piss me ofF!!!

Just an interesting note to this bug- I moved to NZ for a year, didn't change any of my settings on here but did change my computer's time, and had no problems. Moved back to the States, spent a month scrobbling sweet as, and then all of a sudden it stopped working. I still can't make it work, although everything is synced. I'm working on it, though.

  • dasd

i changed my time and date settings then changed them back, then restarted last.fm and everything is working again.

    hope everyones goes as easy.

  • lololol

I knocked my computer back a day. It now works fine.

    Weirddd..

UTC is not really a valid timezone to my knowledge.

Client 2 shouldn't have this problem, it'll be out this quarter prolly. Beta sooner hopefully.

We "solved" the problem. Last.fm tells us the UTC time. We ask your computer for the UTC time. If they disagree we shift timestamps by the difference.

I worry this hack will have other consequences, but it seems the only practical solution if you guys are sure you have your computers set up correctly.

I tried this and it worked for me! Thanks!

  • Last.fm should work out a better error message

I had the same problem and fixed it. There were two things I had to do: (1) change my timezone in my Last.fm profile from UTC to Europe, Amsterdam (where I'm at) and (2) the date (not the time) was off one day on my computer. I only solved the second issue after reading one of the posts above, it's not the first thing you think of. I think the error message that Last.fm provides is too cryptic. It should at least give some detailed steps for people to follow in order to solve this issue, as I think many people have this problem. For example, it is unclear from the error message that you also need to check the timezone in you profile on the Last.fm site. Also pointing for people to check the time AND date on their computer is a good idea. My 2 cts.
