What is the point of life if I can't scrobble music

  • gilkagan said:
you need to uninstall iTunes, download the older version and install it again
you must remove all apple components (such as bonjour, mobile helper, software update service etc..) in order for an old install to work

Yeah, but I can't find the earlier version anywhere online or on my computer.

Glad I came here looking for info. I've just re-built my PC with a brand new SSD and copy of Windows 8.1. Thought it was me doing something wrong, been driving me nuts trying to work out what I'd done!

Will keep an eye out for an update to the iTunes plugin. Meanwhile, I'll switch my audio cable from PC to MacBook and listen via that for now :)

if you need to download older itunes version
    just google search
    "download itunes 12.0.1"

i won't post links here to file sharing sites, but you will see the links after the official apple links that directs to the faulty 12.1 version

  • Itunes released a 32 bit version of the new update

I just downloaded it and it fixed my problem. Here's the link thanks to opul3nce in a thread below.

  • I have the same issue. I sent them a tweet about it but got no answer.

    worked for me too

  • Ditto:

Lastfm won't launch with iTunes and when opening Lastfm manually it will not show anything is playing.

Reinstalling last.fm and the itunes plugin doesn't solve the issue.

OK here's the issue as I understand it:

iTunes used to be a 32-bit application, even under 64-bit versions of windows. The latest version, however, has been updated to be a full-fledged native 64-bit application. The problem is that the Last.FM plugin for iTunes is still compiled as 32-bit code, and 64-bit apps can't run 32-bit plugins (at least without jumping through some hoops on the app's side, which iTunes doesn't). Since iTunes can't load the Last.FM plugin, it doesn't communicate with the Scrobbler application, therefore the Scrobbler receives no play data to send. Putting the plugin in a different folder doesn't help, because the problem isn't that iTunes can't find the plugin, it can't load it because the program code is incompatible.

So basically, we're stuck until Last.FM makes a 64-bit version of the plugin. Unfortunately, this means that if you synced your iPod, those tracks probably won't get scrobbled because they never made it to the scrobbler's queue.

Not really Last.FM's fault since Apple just did this. I suspect LFM's engineers are in emergency mode right now because this screws them out of a lot of users.

Thank you for making sense of this. I suspected it was on the iTunes end, because things didn't mess up until after I updated. But I was wondering why previous iTunes updates hadn't affected it, and now I know.

Worked for me as well. I should just stop updating iTunes at this point, they're more like downgrades anyway.

My life has meaning again, thank you.

  • I guess downgrading it will fix it, I don't really want to do that but that's just me. I've using Winamp for now because it's similar at least to me with tagging and playing.
