Whenever I sync my iPod, songs I listened to a while ago keep being detected.

  • Whenever I sync my iPod, songs I listened to a while ago keep being detected.

I'm very aware of the fact that there is already a "solution" to this in the FAQs, but I have no duplicates in my iTunes library to delete, so that doesn't help.

It started happening last week when I added a new album to the library, and since then, the scrobbler ignores any songs that I play on my iPod and instead keeps finding a list of songs that I played a few weeks ago. However, it does scrobble as normal when I play songs through my laptop/iTunes.

I've tried taking all the music off my iPod, and then resyncing the music back on, uninstalling and reinstalling the scrobbler.... the issue is still there.

So erm, can anyone help? :-)

I have had the problem with duplicate submissions, but not only when syncing my iPod. I have discussed it in http://www.last.fm/forum/34905/_/2018534.

As far as the Last.fm ignoring what I have played on my iPod, that sometimes happens to me. I find I get one of three behaviors from the Last.fm client when I sync my iPod:

    1. The tracks are scrobbled normally (sometimes, however, with earlier, already scrobbled tracks also being scrobbled creating duplicate entries in my charts).

    2. The client puts up a box of tracks it thinks needs scrobbled. I have a chance to uncheck any tracks that would become dups before I actually let the client submit the entries.

    3. Nothing appears to happen, nothing is scrobbled. When this happens, I open up the Last.fm client and click on Help -> Diagnostics -> iPod Scrobbling and then I click on "Scrobble iPod"'. After a few seconds, one of two things happens, namely 1 or 2 as described above.

  • I'm not getting duplicate submissions - when I mentioned duplicates, I was referring to the suggestion of deleting any track duplicates in my iTunes library, from the FAQs, but as I said, I don't have any duplicates.

Everytime I sync my iPod, I almost always get the two behaviours you listed, but since last week, the client has constantly been "detecting" the same list of songs that I had already scrobbled during the week before last, and ignoring anything new I've been playing on my ipod.

The client will randomly select tracks I have already listened to earlier that day, or up to several days earlier.

If I get the dialog box with the list of tracks, I can uncheck them and then click on "Scrobble". Sometimes only previously scrobbled tracks appear in that list.

I the client submits tracks that had previously been submitted (without giving me the dialog box), they appear as duplicate scrobbles in my charts and I have to delete the duplicates by going into the extended "Recently Listened" chart and manually deleting the dups.

As far as the client ignoring what had actually been played on your iPod, look at my scenario #3 and try what I describe there.

Also, just because I have had problems that appear similar to yours, does not mean they are exactly the same with the same cause. All I can do is describe my experiences in case it is a help to you.

  • I just tried #3, and the little box eventually popped up, but unfortunately with same list of songs again, with some duplicated tracks added to the list.

Sorry if I'm not sounding grateful for your help, I can assure you that I am, it's just that the issue is reeeeeally irritating me :/

Ok and I can understand your frustration. I was equally frustrated when I was inundated with duplicate scrobbles in my charts.

Something else to look at, if only to rule it out. Look at the tracks you played on your iPod and see if they have been given a new time stamp. Although not common, I have had times when for some reason the iPod did not time stamp the tracks I listened to, thus they were not seen as recently played and therefore they were not scrobbled.

  • The recently played list/time stamp/play count has been updating as normal when I sync my iPod.

  • bump.................... :|||||||||||

  • ...... the problem is still happening. I have been listening to my iPod again, the playcount updates on iTunes when I sync, but the Last.fm client keeps finding the same group of songs that I played before the 10th of Feb.... Seriously, does anyone have a solution??

  • bump.

  • Try consolidating your library in iTunes:

In iTunes, go to File > Library > Organise Library > Consolidate files.
